There's no other way to put it: when it comes to bicycle safety and policy, Missouri has room for improvement. League of American Bicyclists released their latest rankings for 'Bicycle Friendly States.' Our neighbors in Kansas improved their ranking from 30th to 21st (the largest improvement of any state in the country), while Missouri fell further behind from 45th to 49th. Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day is an annual, national event that takes place on 11/14. Trailnet organized a Ruby Bridges Story Walk with the 5th and 6th grade at Hickey Elementary School. Students got to walk between stations where they read about Ruby Bridges and talked about her brave story. The students were gifted Ruby Bridges autobiography Through My Eyes Thank you to Safe Routes Partnership for their support in this event for these students!

Trailnet works hard each day to move the needle toward streets for all. Just a few of the things we have done this past year include: -Hosted pop-up traffic calming demonstrations. -Installed a bus shelter in a very deserving community to increase the positivity in public commuting. -Hosted 12 Trailnet Classic and Community bike rides. -Put on Trailnet Bike Rodeos to teach people how to ride properly. -Attended public meetings with city officials to push for change in our city. In March of 2024, Trailnet hosted a pop-up event to test out traffic-calming solutions for the City of Wellston. Less than six months later, the safety measures that Trailnet recommended were permanently installed! These traffic calming tools have slowed down cars and made more space for kids and families to safely get around their neighborhood. People are ready for our streets to change NOW! On Halloween, Trailnet partnered with Goetz Group to make some preliminary designs for some safe pedestrian crossings in Hillsboro around Business 21 highway and Leon Hall Parkway. This highway averages over 10,000 vehicle trips per day and yet has NO pedestrian crosswalks despite the fact that it runs through 5 Hillsboro R-3 schools. The City of Hillsboro and the R-3 school districts are trying to increase the safety of these students and the community, and we at Trailnet are trying to expand these efforts.
