This weekend, we celebrated the opening of Pacoima Middle School's new living schoolyard! 💚 More than 14,000 square ft of hot asphalt were replaced by this shade garden, which will be a cooling respite in a changing climate. Vote YES on #MeasureUS & #Prop2 so we can keep greening schools!

“We have 27 more active school projects across a couple of different districts but I would say, Pacoima is really setting this new standard of what a school greening project could be,” said Tyrer. “We have been planting trees on school campuses for 40 years but no project has been as extensive as this one. Had the best time leading a native plant tour at TreePeople with Katie Aymar and Brielle Cruz-Vega this past Saturday! Thanks so much to the folks at Benedict Canyon Association for joining us. We highlighted some of my very favorite native plant topics - the importance of narrowleaf milkweed (Asclepias fascicularis) for western monarchs, the adaptive traits of our majestic coast live oaks (Quercus agrifolia), and the delight of our fragrant native plants, including California everlasting (Pseudognaphalium californicum) Sacred Datura (Datura wrightii) and our lovely sages (Salvia). The art of observing nature requires us to use all of our senses. By honing our observation skills, we can connect more deeply with nature and increase our familiarity with it. The more we know about individual plants, the more we know about the system as a whole. For me, recognizing a native plant feels like running into an old friend. Get curious about your native plants, and maybe make some friends along the way 💚 😊 🌳

Focused on curating experiences that you can’t find anywhere else in Los Angeles’ crowded yet homogenous entertainment landscape, it will focus on giving artistic communities a space where their voice can be heard to the fullest–diving into what makes them unique and exciting. From film screening events that allow us to nerd out on the eccentricities of our favorite creators, to concerts where musicians can merge art and activism, to community conversations that explore the natural world around us, events that engage now have a home at TreePeople’s S. Mark Taper Foundation Amphitheatre. Tonight, the series kicks off with a performance by alto saxaphonist Nicole McCabe, and Sunday we'll be screening the iconic comedy classic Clueless—which includes a special TreePeople cameo!
