This week on the Wormhole: “The Sun's Fury: Understanding Space Weather and Its Effect on Humanity.” With Dr. Thomas (Tom) Berger, Director, Space Weather Technology Research and Education Center at the University of Colorado Boulder NASA has designated 2024 as, “Heliophysics Big Year.” And with good reason. Earth has been hit with several significant Coronal Mass Ejections in 2024. One of these solar tsunamis hit yesterday that opened a crack in our planet's magnetosphere and sparked a severe G4-class geomagnetic storm. This is more evidence that we are entering Solar Maximum. In addition, an eclipse will sweep across the North American continent on April 8, providing a totality experience for millions of people. Want to learn more about this and other fascinating things about what it means for us to live with a star? If so, please join us or a captivating Wormhole interview series featuring scientists who are at the forefront of unraveling the mysteries of our very own star, the Sun, and its profound effects on space weather and Earth's climate.
