🌍 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗕𝗧𝗶 𝗣𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿, 𝟲𝟳% 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝟯 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗱𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗮𝗽𝘀.🌍 The recent Science Based Targets initiative paper dives deep into the complexities of Scope 3 target setting, offering insights into both the challenges and potential improvements on the horizon. While no concrete decisions have been made yet, the document highlights several key areas of interest: 𝟭. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝟯: From aggregated metrics to value chain emissions, the paper articulates the difficulties many organizations face in setting and tracking Scope 3 targets. Although it can seem intimidating, we always find that engaging with and collaborating with suppliers is a crucial step to collecting data needed to track progress. Starting data collection from a small set of key suppliers is a good way to begin building a program and building confidence. 𝟮. 𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝟯 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁-𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: The discussion explores three options for refining Scope 3 targets, including alternative metrics and rethinking the role of "influence" within the value chain. The breadth of Scope 3 yields an opportunity to focus on the biggest impacts. While full Scope 3 decarbonization may feel overwhelming, we appreciate SBTi’s recognition that effort should be applied where it will have the greatest impact. 𝟯. 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗔𝗖𝘀: While not making explicit recommendations, the paper discusses the potential positive impact of Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs) and provides suggested guidelines for their use. These guidelines will be familiar to those who use EACs for Scope 2 emissions, and generally focus on following best practices for the quality and traceability of the certificates. EACs can’t be the whole solution, but at Trio we believe market mechanisms have been and will be powerful tools to help companies decarbonize, and quality is paramount. 𝟰. 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: The paper outlines five steps to operationalize the proposed enhancements. Thematically, these involve knowing your priorities, taking action, and measuring results. Understanding your largest emissions sources and getting creative with solutions has tremendous potential for positive impact. Focus your efforts at the outset, and use this as an opportunity to strengthen supplier relationships along the way. What do you think is the most important thing that SBTi can do to unlock the power of Scope 3 decarbonization, and improve confidence in our collective ability to achieve Scope 3 targets? ➡️ Read more: https://bit.ly/4dIXSpv #Sustainability #Scope3 #Decarbonization #SBTi

📈 On July 31, 2024, the PJM Interconnection announced that the cost of capacity for most of its utilities will increase from around $29/MW-Day to $270/MW-Day, or over 800%, on June 1, 2025. The increase is driven by power plant retirements and load growth, and will impact all customers within the PJM footprint. Corporations currently enrolled in demand response programs in PJM, which can lower their peak load contribution (PLC) for next June, will reduce the impact of the capacity cost increase on their energy bills. Please contact Trio at information@trioadvisory.com to learn more about demand response options for your PJM facilities. ➡️ Read more about the incoming cost increase: https://bit.ly/4fCrvuK #PJM #EnergyOptimization #DemandResponse

The Labour government's new initiative, Great British Energy, aims to boost UK energy security and job creation through clean power projects. With a £8.3bn budget and a focus on renewables, the key challenge will be leveraging this investment to catalyze private sector involvement and deliver significant impact by the early 2030s. ➡️ Read our latest blog by Trio’s Jeremy Nicholson, Corporate Affairs Officer, to learn more about Great British Energy: https://bit.ly/3WGP5Pp #GreatBritishEnergy #GBE #EnergyTransition #CleanEnergy
