From the office of the Rogue CISO: A peace offering has been proffered by our CEO Ori, he has stated that in the spirit of the holidays he is willing to trade the credentials to the social media accounts for a Pie from the Grand Traverse Pie Company for my Thanksgiving table. I do love Pie and Pi (mm soo many numbers). What do you think? Should I relinquish control and give the marketing and social media credentials back to the Marketing team? Also I wanted to make sure you all saw that we now have an API for ATO Protect... you can now integrate your IVR/ITSM into our system to do the identity verification before the call even starts... how cool is that! https://lnkd.in/g5SbUp5q

If you dont REALLY know the person, and you have a hundred tickets in the queue, and a call queue waiting to be helped, would this AI bot fool you to reset a password at the help desk? I'm pretty sure it would, at least in many cases.... dont let this kind of attack become an ingress for the nefarious, support your help desk team with some tooling to allow them to KNOW who is calling, even when their account is locked, their laptop and phone have been lost, and they are calling from an unknown phone number... We can help with the Tech, but YOU have to support your team to add friction when going through a password reset or other risky transaction... #LeadersSupportTheirTeams #DontLetYourHelpDeskDown #ItsNotHelpDesksFault #SecureTheHelpDesk ... Cybersecurity And Technology Subject Matter Expert| Featured on USA Today| Author, Cybersecurity Readiness: A Holistic and High-Performance Approach | Cybersecurity Readiness Podcast Host | Visiting Prof. @ Duke Univ.
Episode 74 -- Reducing the Risk of Social Engineering to Exploit IT Help Desk In this episode, Mike Manrod, the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of Grand Canyon Education, and Ori Eisen, the Founder and CEO of Trusona, joined me to discuss how best to reduce the risks of social engineering attacks on IT support and help desk personnel. This episode was motivated by the major cyber attack that brought MGM Resorts International's operations to a screeching halt. It was a social engineering attack where the attackers gained super administrator privileges by providing the MGM Help Desk with basic employee information. https://lnkd.in/e7gb9MuX Action Items and Discussion Highlights 1. "Bypassing the human verification is something super critical we need to address. It's something we can't afford to wait on, and it's low-hanging fruit." 2. Implement a driver's license validation solution to authenticate callers to the IT help desk. 3. Explore expanding the use of identity verification technologies beyond the IT help desk, such as for wire transfers and other high-risk financial transactions. 4. Adopt a layered approach to establishing a robust defense. "You need a good tech stack, user entity behavior analytics, conditional access policies, MFA, and security awareness training." 5. Educate IT support staff on identifying potential social engineering attempts, even when the caller appears to be using advanced techniques like voice cloning. 6. Implement a policy instructing employees to hang up and call back when they receive requests for sensitive information or transactions. 7. Stay vigilant and continue to explore new solutions to combat the evolving threat of social engineering attacks. The attacks continue to increase and get more sophisticated. 37% of companies do not provide specialized cybersecurity training for their leadership and over half of US companies have also experienced executive identity fraud. ATO Protect can stop this immediately, and you get 6 free monthly transactions, so there is no budget excuse. I have no political agenda here, but I say I have to agree with the direction here. Insurance companies paying for ransomware payments only increase the possibility that attackers will get paid, and everyone's premiums will go up. Do insurance companies pay arsonists to rebuild a house they burnt down? Do insurance companies pay car jackers to give back stolen cars? No that would be ridiculous... yet here we are... I understand the business decision to pay ransom payments, but that should be paid for by the hacked company, not the insurance company... this is going to be an uphill battle as I see more and more firms getting InfoSec fatigue who are making the "decision" (either by inaction or by prioritizing new features over the resolution of tech debt) to sit back and wait for the breach... - Your friendly neighborhood rogue CISO, Kyle https://lnkd.in/ehTUyFVA

Hey investor community, got some money in your coffers that you want to make sure stays there? You know you do; and it looks bad when you have to announce that it got stolen... The market is full of cybercriminals, who could take your money without even pitching you (the audacity you cry from your leather wingback chair)... *cough* Use Trusona *cough* *cough* ... give Trusona a holler and we will chat about how we can unload your burden for a very small price... I will be happy to personally give you my kind of demo, that may (read: will) include calling you out for being slow and insecure... or you can call and talk to one of our happy courteous Sales staff who will use significantly less curse words in the interaction... -Kyle
