So far in 2024, $65Bn of out-flows from Mutual Funds vs $250Bn of inflows into ETFs. BlackRock are looking to capitalise on this trend by converting a $700Mn Mutual Fund into an ETF. BlackRock already has an ETF infrastructure, can Mutual Fund providers use their legacy technology to service ETFs? The bespoke nature of ETFs will make this difficult unless they partner with dedicated solutions, will they make the leap before it's too late ? #etfs #mutualfunds #assetmanagement

Can blockchain play a role in faster trade settlement cycles? Transitioning to a T+1 securities settlement cycle offers the potential for reduced trading costs and counterparty risk by settling trades within 24 hours. However, significant technological challenges must be overcome for this shift to real-time, same day processing. Regulators are cautious about the move to T+0 settlement in the near future. How will the T+1 Settlement environment impact ETFs? The introduction of the T+1 settlement regime in May is creating some very serious operational considerations for ETF managers. At the same time we expect it will also make the ETF market more efficient, which will be good for investors in the long run. The National Securities Clearing Corporation has said it is helping to streamline the settlement process for ETFs and the DTCC has also confirmed that it is working to expedite its end of day pricing process. This latter development will see ETFs moving from batch to real-time processing, with real time create and redeem activity. The broad ETF operating environment in the North American market is coming into being, but individual ETF managers will still need to review their own internal processes and those of their service providers as we approach these important market deadlines.
