Powering dynamic customer onboarding and turning it into *everboarding*

About us

Bento empowers Growth, Product and Design teams high quality activation experiences. Our most popular use cases include: 1. Embedding a dynamic onboarding checklist in your product homepage that adapts to the user's actions (even multiplayer!) 2. Empty state cards to drive upsell and cross-sell. You can trigger checkout experiences on click. 3. Tailor the "rollout" experience at larger customers with easily customized content. For example, swap that generic marketing video with one from your champion, so all those users who weren't part of the buying cycle know what's up. The best part? Iterate easily and push or propagate changes faster than you could if you built it yourself.

This time we talked to Emily Wang, CEO at Bento, previously Product Manager on Growth Team at Intercom. Emily shared her authentic story of becoming a founder, the role of leadership, creating a company culture, and building a strong team. Our conversation went beyond that, and we also discussed: 🔷 What’s the right time to introduce experimentation 🔷 Why killing features is necessary to grow and evolve your product  🔷 Why PLG model sometimes is not the right fit, and what we all should be aware of in the current market landscape Listen on your favorite platforms 👇 Apple: https://lnkd.in/gSxh9R9g Spotify: https://lnkd.in/gitB6fpn Youtube: https://lnkd.in/gPM2qBgr 📣 If you find our show valuable, please share it with your colleagues and friends. 📩 Subscribe to katesyuma.substack.com To receive all episodes right in your inbox with leaders from Dropbox, Adobe, Amplitude, Canva, and many more who are building excellent products and growth culture. #plg #companyculture #experimentation #saas #b2b

After a major push last month on BentoAI and our new Chrome extension, we took time to work on quality-of-life improvements for our customers. Two that I’m personally excited about, especially as we try to keep our Library tidy: 🎁 Bulk actions 🏃 Making core actions like deleting, resetting and page loads much, much faster!

If you’re in B2B SaaS, your marketing site probably has a “Use cases” or “Solutions” dropdown. Why? Because depending on the job to be done or #persona, there’s a different way of using your product’s functionality. 🤔 So why does your in-product onboarding give everyone the same 5 tasks to do? If we say we’re truly “customer centric”, then the in-product onboarding journey should follow along from your marketing site. That’s partly why we’ve made it so easy to build great “Choose your own adventure” experiences in Bento, and leverage the research your #marketing team has done. After all, onboarding is 50% #productmarketing and 50% task completion.

📣𝗕𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗔𝗜 is here (and on 😸Product Hunt today!) Over this past week, I’ve shared thoughts on: • The unique 𝗨𝗫 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 of incorporating AI thoughtfully • Why we, as product creators, shouldn’t just slap on AI, but rather, continue to start by focusing on 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀 • The exciting landscape of 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 to make it easier to navigate all the variables at play But now, we finally get to share what we’ve built! ✅ Automatically generate onboarding checklists from help articles ▶️ Take videos and turn them into contextual guides ⏺️ Record yourself going through a flow and turn it into a clickable flow After all, even when there isn’t a pre-designed flow or UI for an activation experience, there’s often 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘵 to help you get started. Check out the demo👇 or read more about how we approached the problem in our blog post. Our Product Hunt launch and the blog post are linked in the comments below!

We started with SnazzyGPT to help customers simplify the content in their onboarding guides. So many more AI use cases to come, stay tuned!

Back in March, we released our first GPT-powered feature that emerged from our biannual hackathon. SnazzyGPT was a way for users to shorten and reframe the tone of their #onboarding steps to be more actionable. This turned out to be an interesting design problem: 1️⃣ Latency is a huge problem when incorporating GPT / LLMs into product UX and people aren’t inclined to just sit around and wait 2️⃣ By feeding in just the text of a single step, we dramatically constrained the context window and could produce results quickly. Before starting Bento, I was the head of product at atSpoke (Acquired by Okta). There, we leveraged our own in-house models to help IT and HR teams automatically resolve or route employee requests. On the product side, we thought a lot about how to motivate users to give feedback to our results in order to fine tune our models, as well as how to help users understand that ML would produce results that wouldn’t always be exactly the same across attempts. Back then, It was a small group of people who thought about AI + UX, so it’s super exciting to see the thinking here grow so much. Over these past months, we’ve continued thinking about the most important customer problems we could be solving with #AI, and exploring how to solve those problems well, given the #UX constraints today. Excited to share more with you in the coming days!
