Sometimes the highest leverage action step an organization's leader can do is to revisit the alignment between the organization's goals and programming. In September, Twelve12 Consulting founder and CEO Andrea P. Miller, Ed.S. had the opportunity to facilitate a Board Retreat with CERM Legacy Foundation to ensure that their goal of increasing the number of historically underrepresented persons in Architecture, Engineering and Construction becomes a reality. Many thanks to Executive Director Abigail Reese-Kelley for organizing the opportunity!

Key Lesson from The Three Little Pigs: The ability of the wolf to blow down the houses of straw and sticks had more to do with the materials with which the houses were made and less to do with strength of the wolf. Worry less about the wolf. Focus on building a strong house Is your organization a house of straw, sticks or bricks?

I help K-12 school and district leaders build diverse STEM/STEAM industry pipelines through the talent optimization of educators and students. Strategy Consultant | Trainer | Public Speaker | Caregiver Advocate

Never underestimate how much you can learn from a childhood fable… Last week I had the pleasure of presenting at the 2023 Georgia STEM/STEAM Forum. My session, entitled “A House Made of Brick,” used The Three Little Pigs to serve as a warning for district/school leaders who attempt to build STEM/STEAM programs too quickly resulting in initiatives that fall apart as soon as challenges present themselves. A high quality and stable STEM/STEAM education plays a critical role in increasing the number of historically underrepresented persons in STEM/STEAM fields. Schools and districts who serve these students and their respective communities must initiate and nurture efforts that sustain over time in order for these industries to see a positive change in diversity. A few takeaways I shared with attendees: 💡Problems that were created over time will not be solved immediately. 💡Be obsessed with the process and progress just as much as a product. 💡Similar to a house, in order to establish a foundation for any program or initiative, you have to build down before you build up. 💡The quickest way to find out if you have a house of straw or sticks is to see if it is still standing when the right wolf comes along. 💡As a leader, you have to work through layers of people to accomplish your organization’s goal. Lead people and save the management for processes. Thank you to all who attended - I just might take this show on the road! #stem #stemeducation #steam #steameducation #stemlearning #steamlearning #speaking
