🚨 Texas leads the nation in road rage shootings – a heartbreaking reality that recently claimed the life of 19-year-old Cody Johnson in Katy, TX. With permitless carry in place, anyone can carry a gun in Texas without training or a background check. When firearms are always readily accessible, a split-second decision can have deadly consequences. Cody’s death is yet another tragic reminder of the dangers of unfettered access to firearms. It’s time to demand change. We must repeal permitless carry and push for stronger gun safety laws in Texas. This new report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention featured by The Trace highlights a troubling trend: while overall gun deaths in the U.S. fell in 2023, gun deaths among children rose, and gun suicides reached an all-time high. These findings underscore the importance of ongoing research in understanding and addressing gun violence. Our grantee, the University of California, Davis, helps lead the way in providing the critical insights needed to inform effective policies. #gunviolenceprevention #suicideprevention

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We stand with survivors and continue our fight to ensure that abusers don't have easy access to firearms. The intersection of domestic violence and firearms is deadly, with women being five times more likely to be killed if an abusive partner has access to a gun. We will continue to push for stronger laws that disarm abusers and protect vulnerable individuals. Join us in raising awareness and demanding action this month, and follow our partners at the Texas Council on Family Violence to support their life-saving work to keep survivors safe and prevent future tragedies.

Today marks the anniversary of the tragic mass shooting in Las Vegas, where 60 lives were stolen and hundreds more were injured in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. The shooter used bump stocks to unleash rapid gunfire, turning a semi-automatic weapon into one capable of automatic fire. In the aftermath, bump stocks were banned to prevent such a tragedy from ever happening again. However, this June, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of a Texas gun store owner who challenged the ban, opening the door for the legal sale of bump stocks once again. This ruling is a step backward in our efforts to prevent mass shootings and protect our communities from devastating gun violence. As we remember the lives lost in Las Vegas, we must remain vigilant in pushing for common sense gun laws that prioritize public safety. These tragedies ARE preventable and we won’t stop fighting for a safer future. #NeverForget #LasVegasStrong #EndGunViolence #HonorWithAction

We were so inspired by our visit to the White House last week, where our Executive Director stood with President Biden, Vice President Harris, and gun safety leaders to celebrate historic drops in gun violence and applaud four new Executive Orders aimed at reducing shootings. This progress wouldn’t be possible without state-level partnerships, and that’s where YOU come in. You’re part of the grassroots movement driving down gun violence by 16.7% in Texas. But we have more work to do. Help us keep up the momentum and make Texas safer by donating today. Every dollar counts. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gkMzmZ-S

We had the privilege of being with President Biden, Vice President Harris, and other advocates from across the country to celebrate the tremendous progress in reducing gun violence, including a 16.7% decrease in gun victimizations here in Texas. 🎉 But the work isn't done. Four new Executive Orders were announced today, including addressing the growing threat of machine gun conversion "switches" – a critical step forward. This progress is possible because of YOU – the grassroots movement pushing for change. Please take a moment to join us in thanking President Biden and Vice President Harris for their leadership in saving lives and encourage them to keep up the momentum. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/g2CVmmCM
