U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (#USACE) Great Lakes and Ohio River Division (LRD) Commander, Maj. Gen. Mark Quander, visited the Tennessee National Guard's headquarters in Nashville yesterday, Oct. 7, 2024, to engage with agency partners to best assess ongoing response efforts in eastern Tennessee following Hurricane Helene. The multi-agency team listened to a daily update brief from the FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), as they discussed the best path forward. "I think it’s been really good collaboration. We’re just trying to anticipate any requirements or unmet needs so that we can support you," said Maj. Gen. Quander to Alex Pellom, Chief of Staff of the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency. "If you think there’s a requirement, just ask for it." Maj. Gen. Quander also spoke with Maj. Gen. Warner Ross, Adjutant General of the Tennessee National Guard, about the capabilities the Guard and #USACE are bringing to bear in eastern Tennessee to assist victims of Hurricane Helene. Also in the meeting were Tennessee Valley Authority employees, as each agency synchronized their efforts to understand the response mission. #MeetTheTeamTuesday Meet Nate Brock! Nate is a Civil Engineer and an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) pilot for the Nashville District's Surveying Section. He has been with the Nashvile District for three years. Previously he held a similar position in the private sector as a Civil Engineer and Surveyor. Here, he designs solutions to help improve our infrastructure, to include streambank erosion mitigation, sewage system calculations, utility layout and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) UAS flights. He says the thing he enjoys most about working here is "the versitility of the job. You're never doing the same thing everyday and you are exposed to different types of jobs." #Essayons #teammates #usace #employeespotlight U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Headquarters U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Great Lakes and Ohio River Division
