U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
Public Safety
Standing for safety since 1972. Official account of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
About us
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of serious injury or death from thousands of types of consumer products under the agency's jurisdiction. CPSC is committed to protecting consumers and families from products that pose a fire, electrical, chemical, or mechanical hazard or can injure children. CPSC's work to ensure the safety of consumer products - such as toys, cribs, power tools, cigarette lighters, and household chemicals - contributed significantly to the 30 percent decline in the rate of deaths and injuries associated with consumer products over the past 30 years.

This week is the first annual #FurnitureSafetyWeek! As a friendly reminder to businesses, clothing storage units (CSUs) manufactured after September 1, 2023, must meet the performance and labeling requirements of 16 CFR part 1261. This requirement is intended to protect consumers and young children from tip-over related deaths and injuries associated with dressers, armoires, wardrobes, and other CSUs. Learn more about the requirements and find other helpful resources, such as a webinar from CPSC’s Small Business Ombudsman team, here: https://lnkd.in/ghjFNtrb #anchorit #safety #testing #STURDY

Our new #report shows that on average, more than 170 infant deaths were associated with nursery products annually between 2019-2021. Unsafe sleeping environments – such as those that include soft bedding added to the cribs, playpens/play yards or bassinets/cradles – accounted for 126 deaths during that three-year period.
