We are excited to announce that the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees approved an agreement for the UAB Health System Authority to assume ownership of Ascension St. Vincent’s Health System’s care sites in Alabama. This is an exciting opportunity to combine and optimize our collective strengths. Together we will sustain patients’ access to the highest quality care and give them access to a larger network at a time when other hospitals are closing. For more information, visit uabstv.org.

Returning to hobbies after an injury can be hard, and sometimes even intimidating. But Jacob Smith, a patient at UAB Spain Rehabilitation Center, was able to succeed with the help of his family and his team of therapists. They took him on an outing to let him fish in a pond, with the goal of helping Jacob be as independent as possible. Recreational Therapist Emily Rider focused on using adaptive fishing equipment. Physical Therapist Gabi Camacho concentrated on Jacob’s balance, strength, and posture while sitting. And Speech Language Pathologist Whitney Price helped him with sequencing tasks, problem-solving, memory/recall, and vocalization. Jacob’s family was there, too, to support and encourage him in relearning these skills. Teamwork makes the dream work, and we are grateful for this team of people who made this outing possible!
