Government of India loves Open Source!! Well… maybe not the whole government, but parts of it definitely do. I always thought that the Indian government agencies don’t work much on open source, but my perspective changed after listening to CDACINDIA talk at UbuCon Asia 2024 given by Gokul Swaminathan. I got to learn so much about how CDAC especially CDAC Chennai works on so many FOSS technologies, like creating their own distro, changing people to LibreOffice and much more. I also got to learn how the government runs central exams and what all efforts go into to make the process as fair and less prone to leaks as they could. Overall it was amazing to learn directly from representatives of CDAC about all the processes and work they do. It is great to see that in India as well we have such agencies pushing forward for a more open and privacy focused computing experience. PS: Got some great stickers from their booth as well. It was one of the only talks I could hear as in the rest I was constantly jumping between venue spaces for organising (Fortunately, I have early access to recordings ;), we’ll post and share them soon) and I'm glad I got to witness it live as we had a great Q&A round after it. The journey from attending international conferences to leading the local organizing team for one has been truly extraordinary. UbuCon Asia 2024 gave me the privilege of connecting with incredible speakers like Varshi Gupta, Dimple Kuriakose, Bayu Aji, Aaditya Singh, Till Kamppeter, Gokul Swaminathan, Keirthana T S, Rudra Saraswat, Khairul Aizat Kamarudzzaman, Muhd Syazwan Md Khusaini, Vishal Arya and many more. I also had the chance to explore the scenic beauty of Jaipur and engage with some of the most dedicated students at the JECRC Incubation Centre. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from our attendees made all the hard work worthwhile. While I initially looked forward to the event’s conclusion, I now find myself missing the challenge and joy of organizing it. I hope the event went as per your expectations and can't wait to see you all again in the future.
