🌱 Exploring Flexible Carbon Capture and Renewable Energy Integration with MAE Professor Michael Davidson🌎 In a new study, Professor Michael Davidson and his team investigate the role of flexible carbon capture and storage (CCS) in reducing CO2 emissions from power systems heavily reliant on coal and renewables. Their findings reveal that flexibly-operated CCS can effectively lower costs and cut carbon emissions when paired with renewable energy sources. This approach reduces energy consumption during peak demand and maximizes the use of renewable electricity during off-peak times.🌞⚡ To fully unlock the potential of flexible CCS, policy incentives and strategic operations are key. Check out Professor Davidson’s insightful research for more on the future of decarbonizing energy systems! https://lnkd.in/g_vEPZ4n UC San Diego UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering #ucsd #ucsandiego #ucsdmae #carboncapture #renewableenergy

We are excited to announce that NASA (SSW Program) plans to support our project on modeling the Enceladus plume (specifically the flow between the ocean and the surface)! This project will be in collaboration with JPL (Morgan Cable, Luis Phillipe Tosi, and Karl Mitchell) and SWRI (Christopher Glein). Are you interested in modeling the fluid mechanics and eruption mechanism for the Enceladus plume (what is essentially an ice volcano or "cryovolcano" erupting at the Southern pole of Enceladus, a moon of Saturn)??? If so, the Rabinovitch Research Group is seeking interested applicants at the PhD or Postdoc level - please reach out! A description of the basic model we are planning to advance can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eZgGnbge
