UCLA Health’s unique STAR program combines clinical and research training for both MD-PhD graduates and for those wishing to obtain a PhD. The Specialty Training and Advanced Research (STAR) Program at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA provides aspiring physician-scientists formal, dedicated research training concurrent with clinical residency or fellowship. “The hope is that they uncover the mysteries of the diseases they treat, paving the way for groundbreaking discoveries,” said Tamer Sallam, MD, PhD, vice chair and an associate professor in the department of medicine.
