Today and every day, we recognize Indigenous People. We are grateful for our partnership with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, and for all we have learned from them. Last week, we joined with the UConn Office of the Provost and recognized them with one of the Community Partner Awards of Excellence, a very well deserved recognition! #IndigenousPeoplesDay

Charles Krasnow joined UConn Extension as an associate extension educator for controlled environment agriculture in September. "The greenhouse industry in Connecticut is thriving and dynamic. Growers here are very progressive and are constantly working with new technologies and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approaches. I am excited to work with this grower group and the faculty and staff at UConn. The university treats extension as a priority, and it shows in the quality programming and results." The Diebold Family are lifelong supporters of 4-H and youth interested in pursuing agriculture. The generosity of gifts provided by Dudley and Nonie Diebold and the Diebold Foundation to the UConn 4-H program have provided Connecticut 4-H youth with unique and exciting leadership opportunities at both the state and national level. These include conferences such as National 4-H Congress, National 4-H Dairy Conference, National 4-H Dairy Judging, and Citizenship Washington Focus, among others. These once in a lifetime opportunities have had a major impact on thousands of youth. Last year, the 90th UConn 4-H Litchfield County Fair was dedicated to the Diebolds. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dudley and Nonie Diebold during National 4-H Week, and throughout the year. Volunteers are the heart of 4-H and we serve thousands of Connecticut youth each year because of their efforts. As a UConn 4-H volunteer leader, Sandy Eggers has positively affected the lives of multiple generations of 4-H youth, many of whom go on to continue to serve the club as volunteer leaders and adult mentors once becoming 4-H alumni. Sandy mentors and supports her club members and also finds ways for adult family members and 4-H alumni to serve the club in meaningful ways through volunteer service and project leadership in a variety of areas of interest to club members. Her 45+ years of service are appreciated. UConn is developing an NSF-USDA grant proposal to explore robotics in poultry pre-harvest and processing. We are conducting a brief survey to gather insights from poultry farmers and industry personnel on their interest and needs related to automation. Your input will guide the development of technologies aimed at improving efficiency, reducing labor, and increasing productivity. The survey consists of 14 questions and will take approximately 6-8 minutes to complete. We thank you for your participation and value your feedback on thbis topic! We are Building a Ready Generation in a World of Change. Donate during UConn 4-H Giving Week, October 6-12, to help us reach our goal of 400 donors for 4-H, so more youth here in Connecticut can be beyond ready for tomorrow. Please help us grow the legacy impact supported by our Endowed 4-H Centennial Fund at s.uconn.edu/4hcentennial or make a gift to the 4-H Development fund to support immediate needs at s.uconn.edu/4hdevelopment. UConn 4-H equips youth with skills for the future while meeting them where they are today. We craft programs to enable youth to thrive and build confidence and resiliency based on lessons learned through years of research on positive youth development. UConn 4-H offers opportunities and experiences that develop youth into their full, authentic selves, enabling them to shine both now and in the future. #BeyondReady #400for4H #UConn4H With: UConn College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources and UConn Department of Allied Health Sciences

Participatory science plays an important role in our work. A new research project from researchers in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment in the UConn College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources is asking Connecticut residents to report fisher sightings. They are studying fisher populations across the state, please report your sighting at FisherSigthings@uconn.edu
