We are excited to present Delaney with a $1,000 college scholarship! 👏 We ask our applicants to submit a short essay about how they make a difference in their community. Delaney spoke of how the need for long underwear at a local homeless shelter changed her life. Delaney set to work creating a fundraiser, Long Johns for St. John's, to gather not only long underwear, but other needed winter items. Working with local businesses, she set up drop-off boxes throughout her community, bringing in thousands of items. In addition, she’s raised over $8,000 in grants and monetary donations. In doing her work, Delaney stepped out of her comfort zone and overcame her anxieties of public speaking and being in the spotlight. In her submission essay, Delaney explained, “As my confidence flourished, so did the community involvement, which I am infinitely grateful for. This leadership experience has taught me that my purpose in life is to help others, particularly those marginalized, underrepresented, and forgotten.” Congratulations, Delaney! We are excited to present Quenna with a $1,000 college scholarship!💸 We ask our applicants to submit a short essay about how they make a difference in their community. Quenna educates the community about food insecurity and works hard to counter this growing problem. Queena created an educational social media campaign and worked with the Utah Food Bank to increase food donations and gather supplies for hygiene kits. She tackled the problem of food waste on the University of Utah campus by helping to create a guide for students that addresses proper storage of fruits and vegetables and other important information. She also volunteered at the FeedU Pantry 👏 Quenna’s dedication is summed up in this excerpt from her scholarship submission essay, “I hope to continue to build upon the foundation I've set and to implement food security initiatives in school organizations and community partnerships. I'm planning on becoming a member of the UServeUtah College Community Engagement Council where I hope to partner with a local community organization such as the Food Justice Coalition or the Red Butte Garden to increase gardening and food efforts.” Congratulations, Quenna!
