About us
Established in 1933, the Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Florida offers the only professionally-accredited Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program in the State of Florida. It is also home to the State’s oldest graduate Landscape Architecture program, offering both an accredited Masters and a Ph.D. concentration in landscape architecture. In the U.S. News & World Report rankings, the University of Florida is ranked as a Top 5 public university. The mission of the Department of Landscape Architecture is to conduct research to enhance the understanding and practice of the profession of landscape architecture, and address societal challenges; train practitioners and scholars who are committed to advancing the efficacy, impact and knowledge of the discipline of landscape architecture; and provide service to the diverse communities of our state, region and abroad.

Juan Perez is a 2024 LAF National Olmsted Scholar Finalist. He recently graduated with a BLA from the University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning. His work focuses on the dynamic interplay of design, culture, and environment. As a first-generation American and college student, Juan is dedicated to exploring the ethical dimensions of computational, parametric, and AI-driven solutions in promoting equity, social diversity, and biodiversity. Named for Frederick Law Olmsted, the LAF Olmsted Scholars Program is the premier leadership recognition program for landscape architecture students. This morning, Yi Luo, PhD, PLA hosted Marlo Zarka, MPA and Hayley Spring from the Blue Zones Project - Jacksonville in her Advanced Landscape Architecture Design studio. Our Dept. Chair, Dr. Jules Bruck, sat in on the presentation with University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning alumni Dr. LIU Chao who is visiting from Tongji University.
