Ujuzi African Travel offers custom private and group safaris throughout eastern and southern Africa, as well as nearby islands. Our clients include solo travelers, family and friend groups, and cultural institutions such as zoos and aquariums. We work with you to create your perfect safari. Choose your travel dates, destinations, and the types of accommodations you want—from rustic camps to 5-star resorts—and we’ll do the rest. In addition to coordinating your time in Africa, we can book your international flights, help you insure your trip, and offer tips on what to pack! Not sure where you want to go? We will work with you to figure out an itinerary that best suits your interests and budget. In addition to typical safari activities, we are happy to arrange experiences that are off the beaten path. Past examples include arranging a school visit in Tanzania for an American teacher, as well as coordinating meetings between breast cancer survivors from the U.S. and Botswana. Imvelo Safari Lodges are expanding their incredible Community Rhino Conservation Initiative (CRCI) in Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park with the arrival of two new rhinos in September 2024! This follows the success of the first community rhino sanctuary established at Ngamo in May 2022. Inspired by this project, three neighboring communities have joined forces to create a second sanctuary called "Mlevu Rhino Sanctuary." Here's what's happening: - Two new rhinos, Thuza and Kusasa, will call Mlevu home. - A dedicated team of scouts has been trained and equipped. - High-tech fencing and boreholes ensure the rhinos' safety and well-being. - A base camp for the scouts is operational. 🇿🇲 Zambia: Over a decade ago, poaching and prey depletion nearly caused the disappearance of lions in Nsumbu National Park, disrupting the region's ecological balance. Reintroducing lions is a critical part of restoring Nsumbu’s ecosystem. The Nsumbu Tanganyika Conservation Programme (NTCP), which is a partnership between FZS and Zambia’s Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW), is committed to following internationally defined best practice in the planning and implementation of species reintroductions. A committee of experts was established in 2023 including representation from DNPW veterinary and ecology departments, Zambia Carnivore Project, and community representation from the Nsama Chiefdom and Community Resource Board. This diverse platform ensures that lion reintroduction plans have secured the buy in from relevant stakeholders and have carefully considered potential impacts. More than just restoring biodiversity, lions have cultural significance in this landscape. The surrounding area is the cultural wellspring of the Tabwa people, whose Royal Family identifies as the “Clan of the Lions” — or "Abashimba." NTCP is collaborating with the Zambia-based production company, @RustyMokoro, to tell the full story of what it takes to be bring back the apex predator to a recovering landscape. The full documentary, to be released in 2025 after the reintroduction has been completed, will explore the complexities of this substantial task.
