Today, we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a beacon of hope and justice. His words, "The time is always right to do what is right," remind us that every moment is an opportunity to stand up for what is just and fair. Whether it's through small acts of kindness or larger efforts to drive change, every action counts. At UCT, we are committed to upholding integrity and responsibility in all of our actions. #InspirationSpotlight » A Story of Courage. We are honored to highlight Syed Akbar Hassan, our VP of Global PMO & Operational Excellence in Singapore! A strategic leader in the #technology sector, Akbar brings deep technical and operational expertise combined with strong business acumen. Akbar’s remarkable journey began in Karachi, Pakistan, where his family was without many of the things we take for granted, such as electricity, proper sanitation and other basic amenities. Akbar’s father worked hard as a welder but wanted a higher education and often studied by streetlight in public parks after work to gain his high school diploma and later, a bachelor’s degree in commerce. After completing his education, Akbar’s father was hired at the State Bank of Pakistan as an entry level clerk. It was this job that finally allowed him to secure a bank loan for a small house for his family and where Akbar was born. Akbar’s father was insistent that his nine children have the early education he did not have so they could work their way up and out of the low-income neighborhood of their youth. “My dad believed that the best gift parents can give to their children is education,” Akbar reflected. “We lived modestly, sometimes with only two meals a day and one small meat ration a week, two pairs of new clothes per year, and a pair of school shoes every two years. We continued to wear the shoes even if we outgrew them, and we never complained to our parents.” Akbar and his siblings honored their father’s wishes and worked hard over the years earning various scholarships and degrees. Akbar earned multiple degrees including a bachelor's in electronic engineering, masters in communication engineering, and an MBA in Strategic Management. He remembers the look of pride in his parent’s eyes when they attended his first of several graduate ceremonies. "My family's story is one of courage, the dare to dream against all odds, hard work, and the special gift of education," Akbar says. "I hope this story can inspire others to reach beyond their circumstances." Akbar and his family enjoy exploring different cultures through travel and are passionate about music, art, and sports. #inspirational #manufacturing #leadership
