University Career Center & The President's Promise

On October 8th, 2024, in partnership with the UMD Latinx Alumni Network, we hosted the Dream Beyond: Latine Heritage Month Career Panel, an opportunity for Latine students to connect with alumni and community professionals who have successfully navigated similar paths. We helped students explore and develop essential career readiness skills and learn strategies for building confidence, setting career goals, and overcoming common challenges within the Latine community. Additionally, they discovered mentorship opportunities and developed meaningful connections to assist their professional journey. Panelists for our event included: Dr. Maritza E. Thanks to WilmerHale for hosting UMD undergraduate students last Friday for an information session and tour of their beautiful DC office. Thanks to Kate Juhl for planning and Genienne Navarro for joining us. We learned a lot about entry-level positions that don't require a law degree.

I'm excited to participate as a volunteer! I'll be celebrating and building community with first-generation UMD students. I'm assigned to the cover letter breakout room which is great because I love talking about cover letters. Wish I could be at the networking mixer too. Maybe next time.

On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, we partnered with the University of Maryland College of Agriculture and Natural Resources for the Agriculture Industry Meet Up hosted at our Career Center! The Agriculture Industry Meet Up brought together Cal-Maine Foods, Inc., Counterpart International, Green Swap LLC, Maryland Department of Agriculture, Organic Farmers Association, Perdue Farms, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the USDA-Agricultural Marketing Service for an afternoon of career networking for our #UMD students! We’re excited to host the Agriculture, Animal, and Food Meetup! This event brings together various organizations from the agriculture, animal sciences, and food industries. It’s an excellent opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students eager to explore internships and full-time job opportunities in these fields. You can network with prospective employers and discover companies looking to hire you by attending!

We hosted a room full of eager UMD students for a career panel focused on the dynamic and impactful field of environmental health. Industry professionals in attendance included Chesapeake Bay Foundation, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Environmental Health & Engineering., and Global CCS Institute; they discussed their career journeys, shared insights into the diverse career paths available in environmental health, and provided valuable advice for Terps interested in making a difference in this field. A big thanks to our panelists Jenna Scheuler, Blair Budd, Spencer Schect, and Bemnet Gessesse M.P.H.!
