The DART Mission was a first-of-its-kind Planetary Defense test to change the motion of an asteroid in space. As a DART investigation working group lead, Astronomy Professor Derek C. Richardson has been busy analyzing data from the asteroid-spacecraft collision. South Baltimore’s Curtis Bay neighborhood has a black carbon pollution problem, according to a new study led by Atmospheric and Oceanic Science Professor Russell Dickerson. A sootlike air pollutant emitted from fossil fuel burners, black carbon can lead to respiratory problems, heart attacks, low birth rates and lung cancer, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
