We are so excited to share the 2025 recipient of the Meredith Cline Live Fierce Award! Virginia Hoyle, Executive Director of the Caldwell Memorial Hospital Foundation, was selected to receive the award. Virginia has served the Caldwell County community for over a decade by raising funds that support the addition of technology and services at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. Read more about how she lives fierce from her nomination: “Virginia is a fierce person! Soon after arriving to work, Virginia suffered a sudden and unexpected cardiopulmonary arrest in her office. Through God’s grace, the prayers of hundreds of friends, the hands of tremendously talented doctors, nurses and health professionals, Virginia battled her way through her hospitalization and recovery. She had reason to fight back to health so that she could enjoy her beautiful and beloved grandchildren and devoted family. Virginia returned home, engaged in a cardiac rehabilitation program and within 2 months, she returned to her life’s work…raising money for the health and well-being of our community."

We are excited to celebrate our next Employee of the Month! Dr. Thomas Pezzi at UNC Surgical Services was chosen this month. His help was integral to the success of our distribution center following Hurricane Helene. Hear more about him from his nomination: "Dr. Thomas Pezzi went above and beyond to volunteer at the hurricane relief supply distribution drive as a beacon of hope for our teammates and members of the community during a difficult time in our region. He replenished items, organized and moved boxes before and after shifts, while also caring for his patients."

The Galaxy System at UNC Pulmonology has a new name! Meet Bronchi Billy! A big thank you to our competition winners, Kellan and Cooper Stancavage, for suggesting this fantastic name. They had the exciting opportunity to meet Dr. McGuire, get acquainted with Bronchi Billy, and enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of our Bronchoscopy suite in the OR!

We had a blast at our Christmas movie night with our Koinonia family in Lenoir! Before the movie and during intermission, our singing elf, Elfis, kept the holiday cheer alive with music and dancing! With popcorn, candy and snacks to enjoy, it was an evening full of joy and Christmas spirit! Thanks to everyone who made it so special! ❤️

We are excited to celebrate our Employee of the Month, Ashley Shook! Ashley is an Administrative Coordinator for the UNCPN. Her nomination details the many things that make Ashley an amazing team member. Help us congratulate her! "In our case management department, I call Ashley our jack of all trades because she literally does all the things. Ashley has stuck by us and has been someone we can lean on in this department through some of our roughest and busiest times as a team. Despite when Ashley is busy doing all the things, she is always so mindful in ensuring that we are covered and if she can be of any additional assistance to us. It’s been a joy to work alongside Ashley and grow overall as a team."

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Early diagnosis results in higher 5-year survival rates. Routine lung cancer screening is recommended if you are between 50 and 80 years old, have 20 pack years of smoking history and currently smoke or have stopped within the last 15 years. Pack years are determined by the amount of packs smoked per day. If you fit the criteria, speak with your doctor about lung cancer screening!
