Meet Melody Mackner, a proud UNF Psychology alum now pursuing a Master's in Industrial-Organizational Psychology at Minnesota State University, Mankato! Read below for her interview and inspiring journey through UNF! Q: What advice would you give to current UNF psychology students? A: "Take advantage of research opportunities, connect with professors and network! Participate in internships and join clubs like Psi Chi to build practical experience and a professional network. Don’t hesitate to connect with others. The more people you network with, the greater your chances of achieving your goals. Additionally, if you're pursuing a career in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, learn about statistics as much as possible!" Q: What do you think are valuable qualities or skills for UNF psychology students to develop before graduation? A: "It's important to learn how to communicate effectively with people. Strong communication skills will help you express your ideas clearly and build positive relationships in professional settings. Developing adaptability, problem-solving abilities, and professionalism will also prepare you for various careers or graduate school. Wherever you go, having a growth mindset will be appreciated and will help you stand out from others" Q: Can you describe your most memorable moments or experiences during your time in the UNF psychology program? A: "Working on a research project was one of the best experiences I've had! I teamed up with my peers, put our theoretical knowledge to practical use, and presented our findings at a conference. It was so rewarding to see our hard work and teamwork pay off!" A big thank you to Melody for sharing her story and tips for success! #UNFalumni #UNFPsychology #PsychologyAlum

Congratulations to Dr. Guess, Dominik and Dr. Richard, Dan on receiving the High Impact Practice Grant! 🎉 They will be using this grant for their project titled “Culture and Cognition: Transformative Teaching of Statistics and Meta-Analysis.” This project aims to conduct a meta-analysis exploring the influence of culture on cognition. Dr. Guess and Dr. Richard will work closely with a team of undergraduate and graduate students to enhance their research methodology and advanced statistics skills. Participants will learn how to identify relevant statistical results, estimate effect sizes, interpret findings, and conduct power analyses—all essential skills that can be applied across various fields of psychology. Through this lab-based research experience, students will be better prepared for advanced coursework and graduate program placements. We look forward to seeing the impact of this innovative project! 📊🌍 #HighImpactPractice #Research #UNFPsychology
