About us
Founded at the end of the Second World War, the United Nations is an international organization made up of 193 Member States committed to maintaining international peace and security. Every day the UN works to tackle global challenges and deliver results for those most in need. Giving life-saving support to populations hit by humanitarian crises, helping build and keep the peace in conflict-ridden areas, supporting governments and their citizens to advance development and fight poverty, and promoting human rights worldwide are the core pillars of the work of the United Nations and the mandates it receives from its Member States. Water is one of the world's most precious resources. Yet, global water availability and quality are deteriorating at an alarming rate. Each of us can do our part to help save water by: not overwatering our plants, buying local & seasonal food and conserving water in our households. On Saturday's World Water Day, let’s commit to protecting this precious resource. https://lnkd.in/d6WsxtiW via UNESCO

Glaciers are critical to life. They store 70% of the world’s fresh water, providing a vital source for over 2 billion people who rely on them for drinking water, food security and livelihoods. Glaciers also regulate the climate and support ecosystems. Yet, they are increasingly under threat, melting rapidly due to the climate crisis. In 2023, glaciers experienced their greatest water loss in over 50 years. As they disappear, the consequences are far-reaching. We are witnessing escalating water scarcity, rising sea levels and an increased risk of natural disasters such as floods and landslides. On Friday’s first-ever World Glaciers Day, join us in raising awareness: Urgent action is needed to protect these vital ecosystems and ensure a healthy, livable planet for all. Forests provide a rich variety of food sources, including fruits, nuts, seeds, mushrooms, honey, and wild meat, which are essential for the nutrition and well-being of billions of people, particularly Indigenous and forest-dependent communities. https://lnkd.in/eTZW-Euh via United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs

“The spirit of Nowruz is a precious gift. One that must guide us all forward, inspiring us to bridge divides and foster unity; to commit to peace, dialogue and mutual respect; and to protect the planet and live in harmony with nature.” – UN Secretary-General António Guterres as millions of people around the world mark Nowruz, a time for hope and new beginnings. “As the world renews itself this spring, let us remember that every new year, and every day, is a chance for a new start —a chance to do things differently, an opportunity to build a better world.” https://lnkd.in/ekjGuam
