About us
Founded at the end of the Second World War, the United Nations is an international organization made up of 193 Member States committed to maintaining international peace and security. Every day the UN works to tackle global challenges and deliver results for those most in need. Giving life-saving support to populations hit by humanitarian crises, helping build and keep the peace in conflict-ridden areas, supporting governments and their citizens to advance development and fight poverty, and promoting human rights worldwide are the core pillars of the work of the United Nations and the mandates it receives from its Member States. Tuesday is International Day of Older Persons. By 2030, older persons are projected to outnumber the number of young people globally. As populations age, the demand for comprehensive healthcare and social support services will continue to grow substantially, particularly for older persons with conditions such as dementia. “We must work to cultivate people-centered care systems that are sustainable and equitable, and they must amplify the voices of older persons by ensuring their participation in policy making,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres “On this International Day of Older Persons, let’s commit to strengthen care and support systems that honour the dignity of older persons and caregivers.” https://lnkd.in/ddqbjVC

Many have said that the differences and divisions in our world are too great for us to come together for the common good. But the Summit of the Future showed that with a spirit of dialogue and compromise, we can join forces to steer our world to a more sustainable path. As this year’s #UNGA activities wind down, we must remember that this is not the end. It is in all our interests to choose the future we want and to guide our world towards it. The journey continues. Let’s keep going.

Amid a dramatic escalation of hostilities across Lebanon, the World Food Programme (WFP) has launched an emergency food operation to reach one million people. “Lebanon is at a breaking point and cannot endure another war,” said Corinne Fleischer, WFP Regional Director for the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe. “A further escalation would be highly detrimental to the people of this region, who have gone through so much already”. As more families flee their homes, humanitarian needs are expected to rise. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/esHJUFRz
