We are honored to announce that national retailer leader Target chose us to participate in the Target Circle Charitable Giving campaign! This incredible opportunity highlights the impact of our mission and allows our supporters to influence how Target allocates its charitable donations directly. At United Through Reading, we connect military families through the power of storytelling, ensuring that service members separated from their loved ones can remain part of the family routines, no matter the distance. Target's recognition of our work is a testament to the importance of our mission. With your help, we can make an even bigger impact! Here’s how you can support us: 1️⃣ Join Target Circle (it’s free) 2️⃣ Shop in-store or online to earn votes 3️⃣ Vote for United Through Reading on the Target Circle dashboard (change your preferred store zip code to 92108) Every vote strengthens our ability to provide books and story-recording opportunities to military families, fostering connections and promoting literacy. The voting period ends December 31st, and you can vote multiple times. By sharing this with your networks, we can turn this recognition into creating lifelong memories through reading. Thank you, Target, for trusting our mission and giving us this platform to grow! More info here: UTR.org/Target #TargetCircle #CharitableGiving #MilitaryFamilySupport #CommunityPartnership

We envision a nation of thriving military families whose strength is amplified by a shared love for reading.
About us
United Through Reading® is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) public benefit organization. Our mission is to strengthen military families’ literacy, emotional bonds, and well-being through the power of reading together at every age, no matter the distance. We envision a nation of thriving military families whose strength is amplified by a shared love for reading. To achieve that vision, our nationally acclaimed, powerful program helps children feel connected to their military parents, reduces family stress through routine, and promotes literacy and a love of reading by providing the tools military families need to connect through storytime, including ways for service members to record themselves reading children's books, which are then gifted to the child. Service members and veterans can record a story for their families with our free and secure app at a local event or more than 200 recording locations worldwide. Operation Storytime is our three-year campaign to reach our next millionth family member served by raising $10 million dollars.

Our Storytime With a Service Member Veterans Day classroom initiative is back! For the third year in a row, we're inviting educators and homeschoolers to sign up for an age-appropriate, pre-recorded video storytime with a uniformed service member. In 2023, 1,000 classrooms from all 50 states and one territory participated. We were able to reach 21,000 military and non-military-affiliated children! When children who don’t have a military connection watch these videos it helps them see the real people behind the uniforms. By listening to stories read by service members, they can better understand the dedication and sacrifices our military makes. It’s a way to connect and create empathy, making the concept of military service more relatable. Plus, it’s a chance for kids to learn about values like duty, service, and community. This program also helps bridge the gap between military families and civilian communities, promoting a sense of togetherness. The registration form will be open through November 6th, and stories will be delivered before Veterans Day, allowing plenty of time to incorporate them into lesson plans. We're still accepting stories to add to the playlist. Contact Penney Letrud-Samons or Storybank@UTR.org with questions. Please share this with your communities so we can impact even more children this year! https://lnkd.in/g86ZfBEu #educatorresource #homeschoolresource

Our team is still riding high from this past weekend's Storybook 35! The event was a success, and we will share more details and photos soon. But for now, while we're digging out of our Inboxes and fighting jet lag, we want to thank our sponsors, speakers, attendees, leadership, and venue staff. There was so much love and support for military families and our mission in that room, and we are grateful to you all! #nonprofit #militaryfamilysupport

Inspired Vets, you are amazing! Thank you to all the team members, including our Board Chair, Sean McHugh, for spending part of your day on an obstacle course to raise funds for military families! We appreciate and are grateful for your efforts. If you have a military-focused BRG and would like to host a team-building event for United Through Reading (with or without all the climbing), please contact Terri Mateo, M.A., our Senior Director of Advancement.
Atlanta-based team members recently joined our Inspired Vets business resource group (BRG) to jump and dodge through the latest Savage Race to raise more than $12,000 for United Through Reading, a non-profit partner committed to connecting deployed military families separated by distance. “This is the first time we’ve participated in a race as Inspire. All obstacles are fun, but some are made so you cannot do it alone, and that’s the whole point. If you have a hard time getting through, you know to put a hand down to help the next person up.” Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eyUKHTuQ
