United Way's 2024 Advocacy Forum is in full swing! We had an inspiring start with Angela F. Williams, JD, M.Div, CEO of United Way Worldwide, and Rosie Allen-Herring, MBA, CEO of United Way of National Capital Area, addressing our local United Way network about the crucial role of policy in building resilient communities. This week, local United Ways, 211s, and State Associations gather in Washington, D.C. to discuss federal, state, and local advocacy strategies; strengthen their understanding of federal policy priorities; learn how to engage elected officials and policymakers; and network with public policy colleagues from around the country. #LiveUnited #UWAdvocate

This #AfroDescendantWomensDay, we are celebrating two inspiring United Way leaders: Hazel Douglas from United Way of Trinidad & Tobago and Snjezana Andrews from United Way Turks and Caicos Islands. Their resilience and leadership uplift their communities and highlight the important role strong Afro-Caribbean women play in building thriving communities. Hazel envisions a generation of women leaders inspired by figures like Mia Mottley, the Prime Minister of Barbados, sharing how "once women understand their worth, their abilities, and their natural leadership skills (among others), they will undoubtedly continue to create strong families, countries, and ultimately a stronger region." Snjezana's vision for the future is bright as well, sharing, "I envision a future of more equality and more women leaders coming boldly to the forefront." Since 1992, July 25 marks a day to recognize the struggles, contributions, and aspirations of Afro-Latin, Afro-Caribbean, and Diaspora women. By recognizing and honoring their achievements, we take a step towards a more inclusive and equitable future for all. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ePxe3s6T

Every family deserves a safe place to call home. Yet, too many are forced to choose between essential needs like bills, childcare, and food. 211 has seen a surge in calls for housing assistance - received over 5 million calls last year alone. United Way Worldwide CEO, Angela F. Williams, JD, M.Div, and National Fair Housing Alliance CEO, Lisa Rice, are leading efforts to combat housing insecurity and discrimination. In their latest Newsweek article, they emphasize the need for robust policies like the Fair Housing Act's AFFH mandate and federal funding for the 211 helpline to build resilient, equitable communities.
