#Halloween is just around the corner! As you greet your trick-or-treaters, keep in mind that *half* of all children in the U.S. live in families that either are in poverty or are ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed), unable to afford basics. So, to help each child you meet have a great holiday, remember: 🎃 Don't comment on how they're dressed. Their families may live on tight budgets and may not have the time or money to invest in a costume. 🎃 Don't comment on their age. Older kids want to enjoy the holiday, too – and candy might be a rare treat. 🎃 Do offer them treats and wish them a Happy Halloween! School is back in session and that means our partners at Best Dental Help, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing dental care to uninsured elementary children in Snohomish County and surrounding regions, are out and about, meeting children where they are. We’re proud of all we’ve accomplished together. Last school year: 🦷 4,240 elementary-aged students received critical education around proper dental care 🦷 Over 75% of all students who opted in to receive treatment had dental decay, visible concerns or urgent needs that were able to be addressed. 🦷 2,634 sealants were placed on non-permanent teeth (at no cost to the families - a treatment not normally covered by insurance), helping to prevent future dental decay. 🦷 1,500 students whose families and caregivers did not have dental insurance were able to receive screenings, cleanings and fluoride treatment – sometimes the only dental care they receive all year long. More work is needed to build on this momentum, and we look forward to supporting the amazing work they are doing in our community!
