How to bring farming into cities? There's so much more to it than rooftop growing. We loved drawing these talks from all kinds of industry experts involved in urban farming a few weeks ago.
It has been a week since nearly 70 of us were together in Portland, Oregon for the Grow[in]' On [In]tegrated Agriculture Summit. Attendees crossed international borders to attend from as the United Kingdom as well as Vancouver British Columbia. Attendees represented 11 different states, and many more large and mid-size cities. We hosted #architects, #urbanfarmers, university #Extension professionals, entrepreneurs, housing developers, government professionals, researchers, and urban planners. The enthusiasm, open minds and open hearts that attendees brought with them made this unique event feel something like a ‘learning party’ or ‘adult summer camp’ for place makers and agriculture enthusiasts. Gail Langellotto from Oregon State University said that she “...met some of my urban agriculture idols and met new folks to inspire me.”. We hope that others' experiences were as meaningful and that everyone enjoyed themselves as much as we (the planning team) did. In the next couple of weeks, we'll transcribe the ‘ah ha’ moments from discussion groups and the ‘big ideas’ from the Thursday morning session. We’ll also update the event website with pdf versions of the presentations (with presenter permission). In the meantime, please enjoy the stunning work of our graphic recording artist from Urban Wild Studio - Graphic Recording, Illustration, Animation by Leah Lavelle.
