About us
The U.S. Climate Alliance is a bipartisan coalition of governors securing America’s net-zero future by advancing state-led, high-impact climate action. Alliance members are working to achieve the Paris Agreement’s goal of keeping temperature increases below 1.5 degrees Celsius by reducing emissions, accelerating action, centering equity, and tracking progress. Launched in 2017 by the governors of Washington, New York, and California, the Alliance now includes governors from 24 states and territories, representing approximately 55% of the U.S. population, and 60% of the U.S. economy. Last week, Governor Mills and a delegation of State of Maine officials completed a weeklong international mission to Norway and Denmark focused on positioning Maine as a leader in the responsible development and deployment of floating offshore wind. While overseas, the Governor and a delegation of state officials including GEO Director Dan Burgess and Deputy Director Celina Cunningham, Director of the Maine Governor's Office of Policy Innovation and the Future Hannah Pingree, and Maine International Trade Center President Wade Merritt met with industry and government leaders to discuss Maine's emerging floating offshore wind industry and shared climate goals. The Governor and delegation also met with local government leaders, port operators, and business leaders in the Port of Esbjerg, Denmark (pictured below) -- the world's largest base port for offshore wind activities -- to learn about how the Port and its operations. Historic federal incentives have spurred a clean energy boom across the country, creating jobs and supercharging state-led climate action. “Those billions in investments have translated to job creation. In 2023, more than 42,000 jobs were created in the manufacturing sector for clean energy and electric vehicles, according to an E2 report. Many more clean energy manufacturing facilities — and jobs — should be active within a few years.” Keep reading via Canary Media ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/e4fhYQHu

CA's battery storage has surged by over 3K MW in the last 6 months, a 30% increase as the state endured its hottest summer. We’re cutting pollution by adding more clean power to our grid & rapidly expanding battery storage to store that clean energy for when it’s needed most. #California #CleanEnergy #Climate #ClimateAction #News #Politics

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) has created over 330,000 jobs (and counting!), making job training programs essential to creating the skilled workforce needed for these jobs. Thanks to the IRA, project developers for certain clean energy projects also stand to receive tax benefits from hiring registered apprentices and paying workers a prevailing wage. Fortunately, state-level workforce training initiatives are taking shape. The US Climate Alliance — a bipartisan coalition of 24 governors dedicated to collective climate action — just announced the Governors’ Climate-Ready Workforce Initiative, a commitment to support 1 million new workers in completing Registered Apprenticeship Programs by 2035. This initiative joins other training programs across the United States that aim to expand career opportunities to fill the increasing number of climate and clean energy jobs: https://bit.ly/3BxENc8

Governor Janet Mills Governor Janet Mills and a delegation of State of Maine officials today completed their weeklong international mission to Norway and Denmark focused on positioning Maine as a leader in the responsible development and deployment of floating offshore wind. The delegation, including GOPIF director Hannah Pingree and leadership from the Maine Governor's Energy Office visited the port city of Esbjerg yesterday in southwest Denmark. There, they saw firsthand how the port supports the marshaling, assembly, and deployment of offshore wind components and the many jobs the industry supports—all of which are informative as we pursue a port in Maine.
