We are the oldest federal law enforcement agency, and we enforce laws and investigate crimes involving the U.S. mail.
About us
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) is the oldest federal law enforcement agency, and we enforce laws and investigate crimes involving the U.S. mail. U.S. Postal Inspectors are federal law enforcement officers who carry firearms, make arrests, execute federal search warrants and serve subpoenas. Inspectors throughout the country enforce roughly 200 federal laws related to crimes that adversely affect or entail fraudulent use of the U.S. Mail, the postal system, postal employees and customers. To assist in carrying out our responsibilities, we maintain a uniformed force of Postal Police Officers who are assigned to critical postal facilities throughout the country. These officers provide perimeter security, escort high-value mail shipments and perform other essential protective functions. We also maintains a state-of-the-art forensic laboratory in Dulles, VA which contains highly trained forensic scientists and technical specialists. We are divided into 17 Divisions across the country and employ close to 2,500 professionals. Whenever we open hiring windows, we will announce them here and on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram channels. U.S. Postal Inspection Service reposted this
As Chief Postal Inspector, I am incredibly proud of the contributions of women to our agency, and the Postal Inspection Service will continue to build upon its legacy of supporting women in law enforcement. From being one of the first to hire female federal agents to supporting the 30x30 Initiative, the Inspection Service has long supported and promoted the development of women within our agency. This week, I was delighted to attend the Women in Federal Law Enforcement (WIFLE) Leadership Training Conference in Alexandria, VA, where the theme was Looking Back and Inspiring our Future. Looking back, I am proud of our agency’s history of championing women. Looking forward, I am excited by the talented women who are leading our agency today. There is no doubt they are inspiring the next generation of women who will follow in their footsteps. #USPIS #WIFLE #30x30 #AdvanceWomeninPolicing #lawenforcement

Heading off to college? 🎓 Remember to protect your personal & financial information! 🔒 College students are more likely to be victims of identity fraud than the general public. Here are some tips to protect yourself: - Never share personal information, such as name, birthday, address, mother's maiden name, or social security number with someone you don't know and don't trust. - Monitor your credit reports and financial accounts for potential fraud. - Shred documents with personal information before you discard them. While our agency has evolved over the years, our mission has remained the same - to protect the U.S. Postal Service, its employees, and defend the nation's mail system from illegal or dangerous use. Hear a special address from Chief Postal Inspector Gary Barksdale to the Inspection Service on our 249th birthday. 🎉 #USPIS #ProudtoProtect
