  • We are thrilled to announce the successful launch of the Hulu Betena Umbrella Brand for quality health services on November 16, 2024, in Wolayita Sodo! The event was attended by key figures, including Ato Nebiyou, Deputy Head of the South Ethiopia Regional Health Bureau, Zonal Health Department Heads, and representatives from the Regional Education Bureau and USAID. The purpose of this launch was to create awareness around the Hulu Betena brand, which embodies our commitment to enhancing health services in the region. The ceremony included a presentation on the USAID Healthy Behaviors Activity and culminated with a brand revealing led by Mr. Nebiyou Beza and Mrs. Hibret Getaneh, USAID Healthy Behaviors Activity Deputy Chief of Party. We also conducted an HPV vaccination orientation, underscoring the strong partnership between USAID Healthy Behaviors Activity and the Southern Ethiopia Region Health Bureau.   • Empowering Journalists for Social and behavior Change! From November 11 to 15, 2024, we had the honor of training 25 journalists from Fana Broadcasting Corporation in collaboration with the USAID Healthy Behaviors Activity. This training focused on equipping media professionals with the skills to craft effective social and behavior change (SBC) messages aimed at promoting healthier behaviors within Ethiopian communities. During the closing ceremony, Mr. Henock Gezahegn, Country Representative for FHI-360 and Chief of Party for the USAID Healthy Behaviors Activity, presented certificates to our dedicated participants, acknowledging their commitment to health communication. Looking ahead, Fana Broadcasting will incorporate SBC modules into their ongoing training programs for media professionals, furthering our shared mission to enhance health literacy and community engagement.   • Celebrating Positive Change in South Ethiopia, Kucha Woreda! From November 8–10, 2024, the USAID Health Behaviors Activity conducted a successful graduation ceremony for 213 participants of the male engagement discussion program. Over the span of three months, these men participated in 12 sessions aimed at shifting community norms to enhance positive health behaviors and improve maternal and child health outcomes. The curriculum covered vital topics, including healthy pregnancy practices, support for pregnant partners, gender-based violence (GBV), and the importance of men’s involvement during antenatal care (ANC), delivery, and postnatal care (PNC). We were privileged to have key stakeholders in attendance, including the Kucha Woreda Health Office Head and representatives from various government sectors. Certificates were awarded by Mr. Bahiru Bayide, head of the Woreda Health Office, and Zelalem Abera, South Ethiopia regional coordinator of the USAID Health Behaviors Activity, alongside a TDA representative. Mr. Bahiru emphasized the vital role of USAID's initiatives in enhancing health services and encouraged graduates to disseminate their knowledge through community platforms like the Women Development Army and Edir.   • Congratulations to the 26 Youth Graduates of the SmartPhilm Training! USAID Healthy Behaviors Activity, in collaboration with the Tigray Health Bureau and Mekelle University, successfully conducted a SmartPhilm training from August 5 to 21, 2024, at Mekelle University Ayder Campus. Throughout the program, 26 talented youth received comprehensive training in pre-production, production, and post-production, all focused on creating impactful health-themed videos. These up-and-coming content creators developed powerful videos ranging from 2 to 10 minutes, raising awareness on key health issues. To celebrate their achievement, an awards ceremony was held on September 23, 2024, recognizing three exceptional participants for their outstanding video projects. Congrats to our top winners!   • Happening Now! Building Evidence-Driven Action Plans for Human and Animal Health in South Ethiopia. The USAID Healthy Behaviors Activity, in partnership with FHI 360, is currently conducting a 5-day training (Sept 16-20, 2024) in Kucha Woreda, Gamo Zone. The training aimed at developing evidence-based, tailored, and joint action plans at the kebele level, fostering collaboration between the animal and human health sectors. IMPACTFul approach (Implementing Mapping, Participatory Action, Co-Investment and Tailored) is being implemented to improve the process optimization, scalability, and sustainability on the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) and to strengthen Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE). This training is expected to strengthen disease prevention and control efforts, especially for zoonotic diseases, through a coordinated SBC/RCCE strategy 35 participants, half of them women, from sectors like One Health coordinators, animal health workers, and health extension workers are working together to develop evidence-based, collaborative action plans to tackle zoonotic diseases. Key outcomes so far: ✅ Strengthened links between evidence and health strategies ✅ Enhanced collaboration across animal & human health sectors ✅ Improved intervention planning & process optimization ✅ Clearer roles and better visibility for SBC/RCCE activities This training is key to boosting disease prevention and control at the local level! 💪🌍 #USAID #HealthyBehaviors #SBC #RCCE #OneHealth #ZoonoticDiseases #Ethiopia #GHSA
