Delta Beta Chapter of GIS is letting it SHINE! The School’s student organization- the Delta Beta Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma (USF Gamma Iota Sigma), continues to shine! It was chartered just 20 months ago (February of 2023), and since then, it has grown rapidly to where it currently has over 70 members and close to 1000 followers on LinkedIn. We are very pleased and proud to announce that the Delta Beta Chapter was recently recognized at the national meeting of Gamma Iota Sigma not just for being one of the fastest-growing chapters in the history of GIS, but also for the many activities (e.g., charitable service, industry engagement, member development, experiential learning) that highly successful chapters engage in. Of the 109 chapters of Gamma Iota Sigma, seven chapters were recognized for distinction as Superior Chapters, and the Delta Beta Chapter received this recognition along with well-established RMI programs such as St. John’s University, St. Mary’s University, and the University of Alabama. Innovation and growth continue with the Delta Beta Chapter this evening as they launch their first Spotlight Speaker Series which is a focused and unique setting to bring industry experts to campus. Congratulations to the members and officers of the Delta Beta Chapter as they continue to LET IT SHINE!!

School Faculty Fully Engaged at the American Risk and Insurance Association Annual Meeting!! The Baldwin Group School of Risk Management and Insurance faculty was fully engaged at the recent meeting of American Risk and Insurance Association (ARIA): Prof. Boheng Su presented his paper "Climate Risk in Insurers' Municipal Bond Holdings," and he also served as a paper discussant at the meeting. Profs. Steve Miller and Po-Lin Wang presented a paper entitled "A Text-Based Measure of Corporate Risk Management." Prof. Wang also presented ongoing research related to the ACA (Did the ACA Inject a Healthy Dose of Discipline in the US Health Insurance Market?) and a different "perspective" on pension deficits (Can You See State and Local Pension Deficits from Space?). Prof. Randy Dumm presented research that looks at firm disclosure decisions in terms of darkness and light ("Compliance in a Regulatory Setting: A Further Investigation of Transparency"). He also presented a pedagogical paper with Leonard Külpp from the Munich Risk and Insurance Center (MRIC) @ LMU Munich related to their experience with the Case Studies in ERM course at the LMU. Prof. Randy Dumm also served as a paper discussant and finished his tour of duty on the ARIA board, receiving the Douglas MacArthur certificate given to all immediate past presidents as they "fade away" from board service. He is seen below minutes before disappearing. 😉 The school also received two additional awards: An honorable mention as most photogenic faculty at the ARIA meeting and the clear overall winner of the ARIA Action Shot competition. Congratulations! 😎

School director, Randy Dumm, recently attended the 28th Annual Conference of the Asian Pacific Risk and Insurance Association (APRIA) held on the campus of the National University of Laos in Vientiane. Professor Dumm commented that he was "pleased to have the opportunity to participate in the conference as this was the first time that APRIA held its meeting in Laos as part of its mission to expand risk management and insurance education and research into the emerging markets within the Asia Pacific region. This reflects the vision and commitment of the APRIA leadership (HONGJOO JUNG, Katja Hanewald, Wei Zheng, Jing Ai, and Okura Mahito) and the support of Professor Phouphet Kyophilavong and his team at the National University of Laos. I believe that this was the first large-scale conference that the faculty of Economics and Business Management at NUL put on, and it was an excellent conference!"
