Everyone's talking about how artificial intelligence (AI) will transform business’ future digital footprint. And how businesses can leverage the power of AI right now to enhance their digital assets and visibility in search. For the past two decades, we've navigated websites with a hunt-and-peck approach, building trust piece by piece. Now, AI is changing the game by revolutionizing how we access reliable information, faster and more efficiently, and streamlining website navigation. With AI tools like ChatGPT replacing Google for searches, the future might see fewer but more valuable search results that offer detailed, ad-free information (though this will change as commercialization progresses). How Websites Will Evolve As AI tools like Chat GPT continue to develop, we’ll see a shift in the inherent role of websites. Content will become raw material for AI to process, with website design increasingly focused on “immersive” experiences like Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), technologies that combine the real and virtual worlds to create 3-dimensional visuals. We’re moving toward a future where the need for traditional websites diminishes, and content creation adapts to these new consumption paradigms. But hold off on RIP’ing the traditional website just yet. People will still want to continue seeking a destination, one that offers rich content, context and visual experiences. Think of the omnichannel consumer who wants the convenience of shopping online with the touch and feel (experiential) only a brick and mortar store can provide. In website design, efficiency and expediency aren’t the only goals. The way information is organized on site, is the bigger priority. And it’s a common dilemma among many organizations. As we move into the era of maturing websites that were designed ten or even five years ago, many are suffering from “more is more,” overloaded with the accretion of content that has cluttered their pages and made user navigation an exercise in jumping off before jumping in. Enter The Content Audit A content audit is a process of evaluating the existing information on your website. It is designed to streamline, prioritize, and bring to the surface what’s relevant and accurate, and remove what’s aged out, obsolete, or otherwise un-useful to your audience. Our content audit process is guided by the premise of Hick’s Law (named for the psychologist who coined it), which states that the more options available to a person, the longer it will take to decide which option is best. Simplifying choices (that is, getting rid of the clutter) removes the barriers that slow down people’s ability to make decisions. How can we help with your content audit?
