Six pioneers in American space and missile development were honored in a September ceremony hosted by Space Systems Command in recognition of achievements in astronautics that began as early as the 1950s and continue to resonate in today’s contested space environment.

United States Space Force Lt. Gen. Philip Garrant, commanding officer of Space Systems Command (SSC), gave the keynote address on day one of the Space Industry Days conference (Oct. 23, 2024) in Los Angeles, providing an overview of threats from China and Russia in today’s congested and contested space domain and how SSC is responding, including a new Command Plan that details SSC's lines of effort for 2024-25 and beyond. Space Systems Command has awarded a second plane of six Epoch 1 space vehicles for the U.S. Space Force’s resilient missile warning, tracking and defense architecture in medium Earth Orbit (MEO) to Millennium Space Systems, Inc. through a firm fixed price other transaction agreement valued at $386 million. The U.S. #SpaceForce’s Space Systems Command has awarded National Security Space Launch Phase 3 Lane 1 Launch Service Task Orders totaling $733,566,001 to SpaceX.
