Give Our Kids a Strong Foundation! Each year, the UCS Foundation provides our teachers the opportunity to innovate through the Chelsie Bemis Teacher Mini Grant program. At Shelby Junior High, Rachel Krone was awarded a grant to purchase a "Break Out Lock" that allowed her computer science students to put what they are learning to work. Congratulations to Oakbrook first-grade teacher Tracy DeWitte, who has been named the WNIC Teacher of the Week. She was nominated by parent Katherine Ruohomaki, who wrote: "She is full of love and kindness. She is animated and brings excitement to the kids in her class each day. She is an amazing teacher and I have watched my children thrive during their 1st grade year with her. She works all hours of the day and night to make sure everything is organized and ready to go for the kiddos in class. She not only is a fabulous teacher and pillar of our elementary school but she also serves on two PTO boards, volunteering her time to help make the school better. She is a gem! She is a wonderful teacher and leader. We all love Mrs. DeWitte."
