UVA Engineering is pleased to announce the appointment of Ayman Karim as the new chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering. Karim is a notable catalysis researcher who has significant national laboratory leadership experience and a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring. Karim is currently a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and will assume his new role on Aug. 1, 2025. What a privilege to have Eric Anderson (UVA Rodman 96, Aerospace) as our speaker at the 2025 Rodman Scholars Alumni Banquet – where current Rodmans and Rodalum rubbed elbows in the UVA Rotunda. Eric founded Space Adventures – the first and only company to arrange for private astronauts to fly to and live in space. We may not all have our sights set on space travel – where you may literally have a small “window of opportunity “ for launch -  but his insights about the ephemeral nature of opportunities apply to us all.  Go get it when you can!
