Yesterday we partnered with BMO U.S. to assemble 100 teacher appreciation kits! School is starting back up and we are so thankful for our teachers in the Bay Area who work tirelessly to educate and care for students. These kits included supplies like journals, markers, pens, stickers, snacks, and notes of appreciation that will be distributed by SparkPoint Napa to McPherson Elementary School, Shearer Elementary School, and Phillips Elementary School, and by Union City Family Center to Conley Caraballo High School and Decoto School for Independent Study. Thank you, BMO, for your volunteerism and for helping us support #BayArea teachers! #TheWorkUWBA

When Falconer began planning for retirement, he thought about other ways he could help the community. His financial advisor suggested he consider planned giving. "I thought ‘This is just great. After I’m gone, part of me will live on in the community to provide help to those who need it.'” August is #NationalMakeAWillMonth and we're here to remind you that planned giving is a fantastic way to ensure your impact in the community will last for decades. Yesterday, the #BayAreaHousingFinanceAuthority Board withdrew the $20 billion #affordablehousing bond from the coming November ballot. While this outcome is not what we had hoped for, United Way Bay Area is committed to pursuing innovative solutions to address the housing crisis. Building affordable housing is critical to addressing homelessness and housing insecurity in the Bay Area. We believe housing is a human right and will continue fighting for systemic solutions that ensure every individual and family in the Bay Area has access to safe, affordable housing. Our mission to dismantle poverty and build a Bay Area where everyone has the opportunity to thrive is critical – now more than ever.
