About us
We're doing right, right here. Providing help, hope and opportunity to 190,000 Berks Countians. And it starts with U Our work is only possible with the great support demonstrated by the community, including over 1,400 volunteers and more than 9,000 contributors. We bring together businesses, community organizations, the educational community, labor and others to strengthen Berks County. By working with our 33 agency partners, nonprofits and trained volunteers we invest in strategies to create community change. By managing initiatives like 2-1-1 we connect people with community resources through a free, 24/7 Information & Referral service. We lead the community initiative Ready.Set.READ! to focus on early grade reading proficiency, and ultimately help kids achieve academic success and shape our community’s future.

We were pleased to bring another engaging and impactful teambuilding opportunity to Penske's most recent training. Team members made no-sew blankets to benefit the clients of Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks. Thank you to Michelle Reinert, BCSS Executive Director, for sharing the many ways her organization assists newly-diagnosed women through their journey.

Thank you to everyone at Penske Transportation Solutions who assembled 30 social-emotional learning kits for local organizations during a training last week. We are proud to partner with Penske to provide teambuilding opportunities that benefit individuals and families in our community.

Last week was the first of our LCS Friday meetings! Two of our "Big 3" Campaign Chairs - Kelly Fessler and Dharma Sivasamy - joined us to announce this week's total raised to date: $3,069,051 and share some highlights of the week. LCS Chairs Brad and Barbara Hall were also in the house to provide words of encouragement (and a fabulous lunch!)

We’re excited to kick off this year’s Leadership Berks class with a two-day retreat. Day one began at the WCR Center for the Arts , diving into icebreakers and a “discover your why” session, followed by an insightful DiSC profile workshop led by Sara Galosi from Alcon. In the afternoon, Sharon Mast took the class on a Leadership Berks road trip, showcasing the beauty and community of Reading. The day wrapped up with a session on community leadership led by Mike Iorio from Dale Carnegie Training, empowering the class to lead within their communities and beyond. The retreat continues at South Mountain YMCA Camps with more activities and team building. The journey has just begun for these 38 individuals, and we can’t wait to see how this group will grow over the next nine months!

We had the pleasure of welcoming Loaned Campaign Specialists Judey Kamora and Sabina Parker to our board of directors meeting this morning. Judey and Sabina, who are loaned to us by Penske Truck Leasing, shared their moving personal stories with our board members as part of our "why" moment.

Our Emerging Leaders United (ELU) members had a great night earlier this week at the Reading Liederkranz for their signature Leading the Way event, where they connected with local leaders through rotating, timed conversations to share insights, inspire community involvement, and foster meaningful connections. A special thank you to our Big 3 Campaign Co-chairs from Penske Truck Leasing- Michael Duff, Kelly Fessler, and Dharma Sivasamy. We were also honored to have Michael Rivera, MBA, Zylkia Rivera, and Lucine Sihelnik of the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance join us and share their inspiring stories and experiences. Thank you to everyone who joined us for a night of leadership, community, and great conversation.
