A student-run engineering team focusing on designing, building and racing human-powered submarines
About us
A student-run engineering team focusing on designing and building human-powered submarines and race against other university teams from around the world. The Human Powered Submarine Team at UW has been building submarines for 30 years. The team was founded in 1989 at the Applied Physics Laboratory and then became affiliated with the Department of Mechanical Engineering in early 1990's. The team member body consists students from across the College of Engineering of the University of Washington. The submarine team races at two different competitions on a biannual basis, odd years at the International Submarine Races in Carderock, MD and even years at the European International Submarine Races in Gosport, UK.
