Congratulations are in order for V2 client Windfall Bio, who today was named to TIME's list of Best Inventions for 2024! Windfall's naturally occurring microbes are spread over soil and eat up the harmful methane produced during the decomposition of organic matter, while also capturing nitrogen from the air, producing organic fertilizer. Another successful #HLTH2024 summit wrapped this week, bringing together the entire healthcare ecosystem to inspire and accelerate innovation in the healthcare industry. This year’s event featured many emerging and established companies, thought leaders, investors, journalists, and beloved communications gurus (!), all of whom share the same excitement around the rapid advancements of innovative technologies, and the disruptors driving positive change as we approach 2025. There were so many inspiring discussions around a multitude of topics, but two that profoundly resonated were the buzz and investment in both AI and women’s healthcare. With Q3 being the second largest for venture funding to AI startups ever ($19B+ raised), it was no surprise that AI dominated the conversations. Is AI the answer to democratizing access to care and addressing one of healthcare’s largest challenges: quality of care for all? A few takeaways: * While many believe AI is the “magic dust,” it will only be as impactful as the organizational framework it is built upon. * AI is the secret sauce when it comes to addressing another one of healthcare’s biggest challenges: the impending workforce shortage. Many companies are now turning to AI to ease administrative burdens, improve efficiencies, and give back crucial 1:1 time between patients and providers. * With the supply-demand for healthcare services uncoordinated, now is a critical time to implement AI to support patients’ self-care and fundamentally change delivery models to keep pace with the aging population’s needs. In addition to AI, the excitement was palpable when it came to elevating the conversation around women’s equity in healthcare and leaning into topics such as menopausal care, reproductive rights, and inclusive care. This investment of panels focused on women’s health-related subjects brought a crucial heightened sense of awareness to healthcare issues shaping the future of women’s health. It certainly did not hurt to have the likes of Halle Berry, Chelsea Clinton, and our first lady, Dr. Jill Biden, getting behind the discussions.
