A decade ago, cancer care in Brazil faced significant gaps in both radiotherapy capacity and modern treatment capability. Varian's RapidArc Dynamic* solution aims to address one of the biggest challenges in breast cancer radiotherapy: balancing tumor control while minimizing toxicity. A recent study from the Penn Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System highlights a promising approach — using a single-arc, two-modulated port plan. In a 13-patient cohort, this technique significantly reduced heart and lung doses compared to conventional two-arc VMAT plans, aligning with ASTRO’s guidelines for minimizing heart exposure. While more research is needed, these findings point to an exciting step forward for organ-sparing.
