Researchers from the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, in partnership with Bayer and Trueline Therapeutics, have developed BRD-810, a small molecule drug that inhibits the MCL1 protein. MCL1 blocks apoptosis, a natural cell death process, in various cancer cells. After a decade of research, BRD-810 shows promise in reactivating apoptosis in tumor cells while sparing healthy ones, according to MedicalXpress. University of Sydney researchers have studied 20-years' worth of health records from the U.K. Patients ranged from 40- to 69-years of age. They found that for elderly patients, brain function diminished slightly, depending on the number of surgical procedures an individual has had.
