  • 🌟 Welcome to the March Edition of Vet Candy Magazine! 🌟 Brought to you by PRN Pharmacal, makers of KBroVet CA-1, this month’s issue is all about resilience, innovation, and dreaming big! Our lead story features the incredible Dr. Jennifer Remnes, DVM, a St. George's University graduate, co-founder of Vetique Chicago, and one of our very own Vet Candy contributors. From being told she couldn’t succeed as a practice owner to building a luxury veterinary clinic on Chicago’s Gold Coast, Dr. Jen’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. And when she’s not redefining pet care, she’s climbing mountains, skydiving, and finding balance in the thrill of extreme sports. Her story is proof that passion and perseverance can move mountains—literally! This issue is packed with even more inspiring stories like the heroic efforts of vets, like Audrey Shen dealing with devastating wildfires. For those staying on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine, like the latest on bird flu in cats, our journal updates cover the latest research, including important findings on comorbidities in dogs with epilepsy. Plus, we’ve included lifestyle tips to help you make the most of spring and find that perfect work-life balance. Thank you for being part of the Vet Candy community! • 🚨 The Impact of Federal Student Loan Cuts: Veterinary Professionals Left in the Dark 🚨 The veterinary profession is facing a financial crisis, and recent federal student loan cuts are making it worse. With the average vet graduating with over $150,000 in debt, programs like Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) and income-driven repayment plans are lifelines. But staffing cuts at the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) and the potential elimination of key offices are leaving borrowers without critical support. 🔍 The Problem: DOE staff reductions mean fewer resources to handle borrower complaints and resolve issues. Programs like PSLF, which many vets rely on, are at risk. Veterinarians already face high financial stress, with 43% of federal borrowers behind on payments. 💔 The Ripple Effects: Unresolved loan issues could derail careers. Financial strain exacerbates the mental health crisis in the profession. The potential loss of the Office of the Ombudsman leaves borrowers without a vital resource. 🛠 What Can Veterinarians Do? 1️⃣ Stay Informed: Keep up with changes to loan programs. 2️⃣ Document Everything: Save all communications with loan servicers. 3️⃣ Seek Support: Turn to nonprofits or legal aid for help. 4️⃣ Advocate for Change: Contact Congress to protect student loan programs. Ask AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) to support the profession. 🌟 A Call to Action: The veterinary community must come together to advocate for change. By raising awareness and pushing for solutions, we can protect the future of the profession and ensure it remains accessible for generations to come. 💬 What are your thoughts? Have you been affected by these changes? Share your story below.👇 Read more on Vet Candy https://lnkd.in/ezyDG68x #VeterinaryProfession #StudentLoanCrisis #AdvocateForChange #PSLF #VetLife #FinancialWellness

Can Anyone Outsmart the Hermione Granger of Vet Med?! This show is brought to you by PRN Pharmacal, makers of KBroVet CA-1. Learn more at Kbrovet.com   Welcome to Brain Smarts, Vet Candy’s newest (and most gloriously unhinged) game show, where vet med knowledge collides with pure chaos! 🎉 If you’ve ever wondered what happens when highly intelligent veterinary professionals are forced to answer completely absurd animal-related questions… well, you’re about to find out. This week, comedian hosts Clay and Caitlin Palmer summoned a very special guest—the Hermione Granger of vet med herself, Appalachian State University's Jennifer Serling! 🪄📚 If vet tech had a Hogwarts, she’d have the Sorting Hat screaming “Ravenclaw!” before it even touched her head. She’s got decades of experience, a brain packed with veterinary wisdom, and a deep love for large animals (seriously, she probably has a house cow). Listen now to the number one Apple podcast in pets/animals: https://lnkd.in/eMwnZQFp But here’s the real question: Will Jennifer’s encyclopedic knowledge and magical vet tech skills help her dominate our absolutely ridiculous trivia? Or will we finally ask a question so unhinged that even she is left speechless? (Spoiler: Probably not, but we’re gonna give it our best shot. 🫠) Expect wild vet facts, pop quizzes and latest vet med news, and some deeply questionable animal-related hypotheticals (like, would a horse rather fight one hundred duck-sized horses or one horse-sized duck? 🤔). So grab your butterbeer, caffeine, or whatever fuels your vet med survival, and watch Jennifer absolutely school us all on this week’s Brain Smarts! #veterinarymedicine #veterinarytechnician #vetcandy #animalhealth #comedy #womeninmedicine

  • 🚨URGENT: What Happens If Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Disappears? 🚨 If PSLF ends, rural communities, non-profit shelters, and public health programs could be left without the veterinarians who keep animals and humans safe. 🐾💔 Without this crucial program, many veterinarians won’t be able to afford to work in public service roles, leaving underserved areas and animal rescues vulnerable to a major shortage of veterinary care. From wildlife health to disease prevention, the loss of PSLF could impact public safety and animal welfare. 🦠🐶🐱 We need to protect PSLF to ensure vets in shelters, the food supply, and rural areas can continue their life-saving work. 🏥💪 Read more on Vet Candy: https://lnkd.in/esdubwdX #PSLF #VeterinaryCare #ProtectOurVets #PublicService #AnimalWelfare #RuralVetCare #VeterinariansMatter #LoanForgiveness #SavePublicServiceVets #animalhealth

  • 🚨 Attention Veterinarians & Veterinary Professionals! 🚨 If you're currently working toward Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) or enrolled in an Income-Driven Repayment (IDR) plan, recent changes to federal student loan processing could impact your progress. 🐾 🔹 The US Federal Government has paused enrollments for all IDR plans, including SAVE, IBR, ICR, and PAVE, which means NO new applications or income recertifications for now. ❗️ For those in public service roles (nonprofits, government, etc.), this could delay your progress toward loan forgiveness after 10 years of qualifying payments. What can you do now? 1️⃣ Keep track of your payment history—ensure you're aware of how many qualifying payments you've made. 2️⃣ Contact your loan servicer to discuss any deadlines or next steps. 3️⃣ If you’ve been in forbearance, look into the Buyback option to count those months toward forgiveness. 4️⃣ Contact your local political representatives to express concerns and advocate for changes in the student loan repayment and forgiveness systems. They can help bring attention to the issue and work on your behalf! This pause might create some uncertainty, but staying informed and proactive is key to navigating these changes! 📋💪 Read more on Vet Candy: https://lnkd.in/e_-ihrzs #Veterinarians #VeterinaryProfessionals #PSLF #animalhealth #StudentLoanForgiveness #VeterinaryCareers #IDR #PublicService
