We're a winner! A 2024 Skift Idea Awards winner! Visit Philadelphia won in the CREATIVE THINKERS Category: Marketing for our “In Pursuit of a More Perfect Union” campaign. The SKIFT Idea Awards are the travel industry’s most coveted prize, recognizing excellence in design, creativity and innovation. Our entry was among a select group of 23 projects hand-picked from a list of nearly 350 submissions from around the world. Fellow Idea Award winners this year include global brands like Southwest Airlines, Radisson Hotel Group and Sandals Resorts International. Our winning campaign showcases Philadelphia as the premier welcoming and inclusive destination in the U.S. in a way that only the birthplace of the nation can. The campaign was designed to offer a fresh take on Philadelphia’s commemoration of history and heritage months, including Black History Month, Asian American Heritage Month, Pride, Hispanic Heritage Month and more. This award wouldn't be possible without the tireless efforts of the entire integrated marketing team. Cheers to each member of the Visit Philly staff and our external partners who helped bring this initiative to life. #visitphilly #skiftideaawards #travel

An insider's look at what VISIT PHILADELPHIA does to market Greater Philadelphia as a leisure tourism destination.
About us
Mission: VISIT PHILADELPHIA® is our name and our mission. As the region’s official tourism marketing agency, we build Greater Philadelphia’s image, drive visitation and boost the economy. Who We Are: Recognizing that leisure tourism could be an important industry for the city and region, the City of Philadelphia, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and The Pew Charitable Trusts founded VISIT PHILADELPHIA as the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation in 1996. Today, Greater Philadelphia welcomes 13.4 million more leisure travelers annually than it did in 1997. Successful campaigns include the current Come for Philadelphia. Stay for Philly; With Love, Philadelphia XOXO®; Philly’s More Fun When You Sleep Over®, the most successful post-9/11 hospitality recovery campaign in the U.S.; the groundbreaking Philadelphia – Get Your History Straight And Your Nightlife Gay®; and With Art Philadelphia®, the city’s first-ever coordinated and sustained visual arts marketing effort. Funding: A 501(c)3, VISIT PHILADELPHIA funding sources include Philadelphia County hotel tax, foundation grants, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania grants, partnerships and sponsorships. Spotlight on our friends at Carpenters’ Hall, who are partnering with National History Day to host the Young People’s Continental Congress right here in Philadelphia on July 13-19, 2025. Applications are open through Nov. 1 for this event, where student-teacher teams from across the country will assemble to study history and civics in the birthplace of the nation. They’ll explore the United States’ founding and learn how the concepts and ideals of that era have evolved over the past 250 years, ultimately shaping our future thinkers and leaders. Events like these highlight Philadelphia’s ongoing role in inspiring young minds and reinforcing our city’s status as a center for intellectual and civic engagement. As part of the DesignPhiladelphia festival, Visit Philadelphia president and CEO Angela Val spoke as part of J2 and Exit Design’s Catalysts: Designing Future Philadelphia panel, during which she explored how we can leverage design to enhance Philadelphia's allure and create a lasting legacy as we approach the 250th anniversary of America’s founding in 2026. She joined fellow panelists Bill Adair, executive director at ArtPhilly; Joseph Forkin, president and CEO at Delaware River Waterfront Corporation; and Matthew JM Kenyatta, Ph.D. Visit Philadelphia always strives to be an innovative and creative thought leader in the destination marketing space, and Angela shared excellent insights into Visit Philadelphia’s efforts to celebrate this milestone year, emphasizing the synergy between design, civic pride and collaboration with all of our tourism, hospitality and media partners. A big shout-out to Eric Cortes, Visit Philadelphia’s senior director of social, for serving as a judge at this year’s Puerto Rican Day Parade! The event, hosted by Concilio de Organizaciones Hispanas de Filadelfia, Inc, is one of Philadelphia's largest cultural celebrations, showcasing the beauty, resilience and pride of the city’s Puerto Rican and Latino communities. Eric joined an incredible panel of judges including Hector Nuñez, founder of Wooder Ice; Nilda Iris Ruiz-Singh, president and CEO of Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha (APM); Jannette Diaz, president and CEO of Congreso de Latinos Unidos; and William Garcia, director of the Mayor's Office of Latino Engagement. In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Visit Philadelphia took our Little Free(dom) Library activation on the road to New York City and Washington D.C., marking the project’s first foray outside Philadelphia. Our team distributed 2,000 banned books by Hispanic and Latino authors from a giant, walk-in version of the Little Free(dom) Library at the NY Latin Food Festival and Fiesta DC. A part of Visit Philadelphia’s ongoing In Pursuit of A More Perfect Union series, the Little Free(dom) Library initiative underscores Philadelphia’s commitment as the nation’s birthplace to making stories by underrepresented groups accessible to residents and visitors. It's all part of our larger goal to showcase the city as a premier welcoming, inclusive and respectful destination for U.S. travel. #visitphilly #littlefreedomlibrary #hhm
