Leadership in Focus | Part II From the 2024 Visit Phoenix Annual Meeting stage to your screen, our Leadership Video Series returns—this time, with our Marketing Director, Steven Totten, in the spotlight! As Director of Marketing, Steven has been the linchpin in our strategic transformation of how the world views our city and region. Through a myriad of content efforts, he has masterfully told the story of Greater Phoenix, bringing its essence to life in a way that resonates with locals and visitors from around the global. With that, his role extends far beyond campaigns and content; alongside our exceptional Marketing team, Steven has been the heartbeat behind several of our city’s most high-profile moments, from the Super Bowl, to the NCAA Men’s Final Four, the WNBA All-Star Game, the Spirit of Phoenix Cocktail Competition, and even through the bold undertaking of an organizational rebranding. Why does this matter? Because we’re not just selling a destination—we’re sharing an experience, one that Steven and the Marketing team have elevated through their creative vision, strategic insights, and genuine passion for the Sonoran Desert. They are the masters behind campaigns that capture not just our skyline and sunsets but the pulse and pride of the community that calls Phoenix home. Remember, if anyone asks, tell 'em the desert made you do it. (and because it bears repeating, yes, visitphoenix.com generated over $90 million in economic impact!)

Phoenix took center stage at Outstanding in the Field at The Abbey on Monroe, where artistry, culture, and culinary mastery collided in an unforgettable evening. We had the honor of welcoming James Beard Award-winning Chef René Andrade, a proud son of Nogales, whose journey from cooking alongside his grandmother to becoming the 2024 Best Chef – Southwest has inspired us all. With Mayor Kate Gallego and Ron Price, CDME, President & CEO of Visit Phoenix, in attendance, the night was made even more special by the City’s proclamation declaring October 10 as René Andrade Day—a well-deserved recognition of Chef René’s culinary contributions and cultural impact. The Abbey, reborn from the ashes of near demolition, mirrors the spirit of Phoenix itself—resilient, innovative, and rich in history. Chef René’s menu, inspired by his Sonoran heritage and using ingredients like native chiltepín and desert herbs, transported guests to the heart of our desert landscape. Every dish was a tribute to the diverse and vibrant culture that defines Phoenix, uniting us through the flavors that connect past, present, and future. This event wasn’t just a meal; it was a celebration of Phoenix’s identity. The triumph of diversity, resilience, and creativity—qualities embodied by Chef René—have shaped Phoenix into the dynamic, ever-evolving culinary powerhouse it is today. Here’s to the storytellers, the visionaries, and the artisans who continue to elevate our city, one plate at a time.
