Recently the Sentinel was featured at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science PA program during a lab simulation!
This week in our simulated anatomic pathology laboratory environment, first-year Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science Pathologists’ Assistant (PA) students honed their skills in triaging and prioritizing fresh kidney needle core biopsies. Their focus was on ensuring the execution of critical diagnostic tests, such as electron microscopy, to guarantee precise diagnoses for patients undergoing evaluation for renal diseases. PA students were also presented the opportunity to utilize the Sentinel device from Vistapath, an innovative platform leveraging AI to mitigate mislabeling and specimen mix-ups. By scanning the barcodes on specimen containers and cassettes, along with capturing pre- and post-processing specimen photographs, the device employs AI to ensure data accuracy. Additionally, it utilizes AI to provide measurements and concise tissue descriptions. These images and initial findings seamlessly integrate into the laboratory information system (LIS), enhancing safety in the anatomic laboratory environment and reinforcing our commitment to delivering exceptional patient care with an added layer of quality assurance.
