In over a decade, Vitendo4africa (V4A) has annually recognized and celebrated individuals and organizations that have significantly impacted immigrant families in the St. Louis region. The V4A award is presented to distinguished individuals or organizations with a reputable record of support and community service within the immigrant community. Congratulations to the 2024 Youth Empowerment Award Nominee, Ephrem Andemariam! Ephrem, a proud native of Ethiopia, has passionately dedicated himself to serving African immigrant youth by creating opportunities for them to develop both their soccer and social skills. Over a decade ago, he founded the IBEX Soccer Program, which has since impacted hundreds of immigrant children. Many of these young people have now grown into successful professionals in the corporate world, and they are giving back to the community in various ways. For many years, Ephrem has also been a key volunteer in the planning and hosting of the Cup of Nations Youth Soccer Festival, the largest community soccer tournament in St. Louis. His ongoing work continues to positively impact countless immigrant youth in the St. Louis region. In addition to his soccer-related contributions, Ephrem has served as a Program Coordinator at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, where he has supported numerous international students on their career journeys. We invite you to join us on November 9th, 2024, as we honor Ephrem and other remarkable heroes from our region. Congratulation Shujaa Ephreim Andermariam! Ticket link https://lnkd.in/gigPjT7W

Heartfelt gratitude to the Washington University in St. Louis African Student Association for hosting the annual ZINASH event, an incredible opportunity for our immigrant high school students to have college experience. This college tour not only fosters college readiness but also inspires and empowers students to envision themselves at a prestigious institution like Washington University. Your dedication to mentoring and guiding the next generation is truly commendable. We're thrilled to see the full circle of community support! Some of our students who attended this meeting last year have come full circle, returning as Washington University (WASHU) students to generously volunteer and provide college tours for us this year. Their journey inspires us: 1. From attendees to ambassadors 2. From mentees to mentors 3. From aspiring students to accomplished leaders We're proud of their accomplishments and grateful for their dedication to paying it forward. Thank you, Dr. Wilmeta Diallo, admission staff and WASHU ASA students, for sharing your time, expertise, and passion!

Navigating the college application process can be particularly challenging for immigrant students. They often face unique barriers, such as language difficulties, unfamiliarity with the U.S. education system, and limited access to resources and guidance. These challenges can make it harder to showcase their full potential, but with the right support and determination, they can overcome these obstacles and achieve their academic goals. It's important to recognize these hurdles and provide the necessary assistance to ensure every student has an equal opportunity to succeed. We are excited to announce that we are hosting a virtual meeting with college admissions representatives from various colleges across the country for both parents and students. This event is a valuable opportunity to gain insights and guidance directly from admissions professionals, helping to demystify the college application process for our immigrant youth. https://lnkd.in/g6ChFQsd 4:00PM Pacific Time 6:00PM CST 7:00PM EST ( New York Time) Boston University Washington University in St. Louis The Ohio State University , Boston College Assoc. of Kenyan Professionals in America Kenya Embassy- Washington DC

Women's Equality Day is observed on August 26th each year in the United States to commemorate the adoption of the 19th Amendment in 1920, which granted women the right to vote. This day not only celebrates the progress that has been made in the fight for gender equality but also serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggles that women face in achieving full equity in all aspects of life. Women’s Equality Day is not just a celebration of past victories but a call to continue striving for true equality for all women, regardless of race, class, or background. We are committed to supporting and empowering immigrant and refugee women to be strong pillars of their families and our community. Thank you to all our partners and volunteers for helping us move the women's equity needle closer to true equality and empowerment. Your dedication and hard work are making a tangible difference in our community, bringing us closer to a future where every woman has the opportunity to thrive and succeed. St. Louis is home to many cultures from around the world. And as the region welcomes more new Americans, there’s a greater desire to share stories and traditions about other places and one's own experiences. Vanessa Okwuraiwe wrote “Jollof Rice with Grandma” to share her culture with others in the St. Louis area. The children’s book focuses on 6-year-old Ada, who learns to make a classic West African dish when her grandparents visit from Nigeria. https://lnkd.in/gqjMWGbD
