Received the amazing news of being selected as one of the 50 global Rising Stars in ESG 2024 by the Women of the Future Programme! It’s truly an honor, and to top it off, being mentioned in the Financial Times UK is a bucket-list moment," says Dan Jing Wu after the list announcement. ESG stands for Environmental, Social and Governance. In the words of the program, "ESG is a wide-ranging and fast-moving field. It provides a framework for assessing how a company is performing against its commitments to shape a better world." The annual list seeks to celebrate the talented female trailblazers and role models aged 35 and under from around the world who are at the forefront of ESG. In Dan Jing Wu's profile, she was asked about the defining moment that inspired her to pursue an ESG related career? Here's what she said: "It was my childhood dream to help and heal people when they became sick, inspired by witnessing a family member struggle with illness. After completing my PhD in biomedical engineering, I aimed to bring innovative techniques to patients. That is how VivArt-X came to life." VivArt-X develops personalized, regenerative materials for women's health. Its revolutionary synthetic, degradable biomaterial will revolutionize breast reconstructive surgery in women who have undergone breast tissue removal after breast cancer diagnosis, offering personalized breast reconstruction and regeneration. What an exciting week at the Dutch Consulate General in Istanbul! During the opening reception to Breastanbul 2024 conference, one of the largest and most influential conferences on breast cancer globally, we saw a vibrant gathering of entrepreneurs, surgeons, and talented artists coming together to celebrate progress and innovation. The spotlight was on Sirius Medical (a Dutch spin-off from the The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) & the University of Twente) and its collaboration with Surgitate (a Turkish spin-off from Sabanci University & the Turkish Senology Academy - SENATURK Senoloji Akademisi). It served as an example of the strength of international collaboration leading to enhanced knowledge valorization: these two companies created an entirely new product by combining their existing products, thereby substantially advancing breast cancer care. In conjunction with the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we proudly unveiled Maryam Salahi's powerful artwork, Two Pieces, under the theme "Women are Colorful." This remarkable piece captures the strength, resilience, and unique journeys of women navigating breast cancer. A special thanks to Ozge Akbulut for the opportunity to spotlight this meaningful work and to everyone who contributed to making this event so memorable. We continued the day after with a dinner hosted by our Consul General Arjen Uijterlinde. Here we discussed potential collaboration between our institutions with participation of the Sirius Medical Team, VivArt-X, TechMed Centre, Acıbadem Üniversitesi, Surgitate and the president of the UK Association of Breast Surgery Leena Chagla and her husband. Lastly, Sirius Medical organized a Dutch-Turkish Innovation Session during the Breastanbul conference, wonderfully moderated by Leena Chagla and Erkin Aribal. Here Behdad DashtBozorg of the The Netherlands Cancer Institute explained their ongoing research concerning AI enhanced ultrasound imaging. Anke Christenhusz detailed TechMed Centre’s research into evaluating different tumor marker systems. And lastly, Dan Jing Wu highlighted the work of VivArt-X in developing synthetic biomaterials for personalized regenerative solutions. It was an incredibly inspiring week full of driven people with a single aim: to continue building bridges for innovation and raising awareness for breast cancer care! De naam VivArt-X komt van het Franse vivre dat leven betekent.
